Mike Tripes (CZ) grab bed the start in the first moto, followed closely by Mark Blackwell (Hus) and Jeff Foland (Pen). Blackwell shot down Tripes' lead after just half-a-lap, but Mark was passed by Foland on the next lap. John Smith of the CRT, the only 125 rider in the class, worked his way from seventh on the first lap to take over third spot on the fourth lap. He then moved up to Blackwell and challenged him for second spot. Then, on the seventh lap, Foland threw a chain on the uphill, allowing Blackwell to break into the lead . Sm ith and Blackwell shot it out for about three laps, with John coming into many passing opportunities. The big bo re Husky pulled enough on the little Elsie to make Smith back off and let Blackwell have the lead. 18 Mike Tripes once again grabbed the lead out of the gate, and once again Blackwell took the lead away from hin in half of a lap . John Smith was rid ing in third spot, followed by Chuck Rouse (Hus). Smith passed Tripes on the downhill after the first go 'round. With the absence of the quick Foland, it was a battle between Smith and Blackwell for top spot. John then worked up to Mark.pressuring him for five laps . Third, however, was more questioned. Rob Zamora, who has apparently adjus ted quite well to the CMC Pro ranks, improved his first moto fifth by taking third in each of the final two rounds to tie Jim Domann on points and ease him back into fourth based upon the tie -breaking order of fin ish in the final. Jeff Vidic failed to sweep the 250cc Pros, but he still won overall after he took the final moto with Jeff Jennings (Bul ) second. Those two went into that last event tied with four points each. Val Tamietti (Mai ) broke his tie with Bill Rubly (CA) and took third. Rubly held fourth over Dave Foltz (Mai) . Rubly made up for it, however, with his 20th triumph of the year in the 500cc Pros. This week was another sweep over good friend and traveling companion, Luke Messer, who also rides for Precision Cycle on a Maico. • Results in Results Section. Much of the course was very fast.
