JUNE 20, 1990
A photo of the start of the Oklahoma City Supercross was featured on the
cover of Cycle News 30 years ago. Jean-Michel Bayle (22), Jeff Stanton
(1) and Rick Johnson (17) were all going for the holeshot. The race was held
under the sun at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds Stadium. Stanton took the
win... Ed Lojak won the Brown Jug GNCC in Brownsville, Pennsylvania...
Stephane Mertens and Doug
Chandler split World Superbike wins
at Brainerd... Randy Hawkins won the
Cherry Pit National Enduro in Traverse
City, Michigan.

Nicky Hayden was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 20 years ago
after winning the first—and second—World Superbike races of his career.
They came at rounds four and five at Road America... Also pictured on
the cover was Yamaha's first production 250cc four-stroke motocrosser,
the 2001 YZ250F... Kenny Roberts Jr. won the 500cc Grand Prix
at Catalunya... A 5-1 was good enough to give Ricky Carmichael the
overall win in the 250cc class at Southwick; Travis Pastrana won both
125cc motos.
