LOOKING BACK
Our cover story 40 years ago was a preview of the 500cc U.S.GP that was
coming to Carlsbad. It was the race's 10th anniversary. We were counting
on Brad Lackey taking the win... We had race coverage of the Mile High
250/500cc AMA National Motocross from Lakewood Sportcycle Park in
Lakewood, California. Goat Breker took the 500cc-class win by winning
both motos. It was his first career national victory. Kent Howerton took
the 250cc-class victory after trading wins with Darrell Shultz... Richard
Schlachter won the AMA GNC/Winston Pro Road Race at Loudon.
