Tim Bowers and Dan Ree s winners of the Ope n Novice 11 and half-mile respec tively had m ore than their wins in com mo n as they each earned their tr an sfer to Am at eur. Dylan Neihart who was second to him o n t he half-mile also gave a fo n d farewell to the word No vice. The 125cc Novice clas s is so packed wi th talen t that it's hard to say who will be to p dog, b u t among th e riders to wa tc h sho ul d be David J en kin s, J eff Wright, J im Sp iegle and David Calla way . Rick Blankenship who t ravels all the way from Palmdale looks to be Numero Un o in the 100cc Division and Rob Selvy shouldn't be discoun te d for a sec on d. Well, Mike Tid well was his usual ou tstanding self ri ding fo ur and winning four. He's got to be a machine wrapped up in a kid 's skin or h ave the stamin a of a l\1isso uri mule. Mike Minning ran seco nd to Ti d well on th e 125 cc Expert half-mile, and 25 0cc Expe rt 11. Tun McWhorter and Carl Whitt go t to run sec on d to Mike on th e 25 0c c Expert Twin hal f-mil e and 125cc Expert 11. If to add insult to injury, Eddie Lawson finally quit breaking bikes lo ng enougb to win the 250cc Expert half-mile Singl e with Minning in second . Jim Roach who was third place finisher on the half-mile goes, deserves co mme n t for transferring himself from the Novice ranks. Th e mini cycle boys are really becoming co mpetitive with no one domin atin g th e classes. Chris Cannon came o ff a second in th e semi to tum the tables on Mik e Paulson for th e 11 win. It didn 't go th e sam e way on the hal f-mile as sp ecialist Todd Brown though t the we alth neede d to be shared so he proceeded to ta ke the b iggest sh are and let Chris h ave second. Tim had to settle for second place as Doug Davenport won the 250cc Expert Short Track. It looks like the McWhorters will soon have two sons co mpe tin g in th e Pro ran ks since Tim just got his license and is on his way. Pat Richmond, the only triple winner of the night, got two of his wins in the Mini Division Short Track and half-mile with little eight-year-old Gene Jenkins pi cking up the Short Track Division II and running second to Pat on the half-mile. He was really looking up town and co uld become quite a threat during the summer months. Eddie Drake took the IOOcc Novice Short Tra ck ov er Cliff Whetstone, then turned around and added icing to the cak e by winning th e 125cc Novice over David Jenkins an d Rex Bonh am. Jenkins spurred on by little brother's win or sibling rivalry, smoked them bad on th e I 25cc half-mile with second time out and much imp ro ved Qiff Mathews collecting th e sec o nd pl ace gold. Cliff it was obvious, did some jetting and gearing to his KX 125 and it definitely showe d . Eddi e San Ro m an all gro wn up from the m ini cycle ranks found out the third time is the charm as he came fro m o ff Dan McWhorter still riding his high after ea rn ing his number one Junior titIe at Ascot Friday nigh t gave th e Corona specta tors a good examp le of th e style th at go t him t he re .
