Lucky 13 Series MX

Gary Racca, 125 Pro rider, got it
together for a win in race number
five of the Puyallup "Lucky 13"
Series. Racca, busy riding in
California and Idah o , had been missed
at his home track for a few weeks. He
was in trouble only on ce and n ot for
long. He took the first m oto lead, lost a
position in the Hairpin Tum , and then
regained his le ad t o ride it ou t.
There was some good dicin g in the
250 B with Don West and Bill Capellen
taking home the honors. Capellen
fought super hard in m o t o one to hold
onto the lead but transmission problems
caused him to settle for se cond.
Roger Zoerb (Hon) grabbed the lead
both motos an d kept it to the finish in
the Mini B. Dan Bunger (Yam) won th e
trophy for the Mini A and J ohn
Christian (Yam ) took the Super class .
Raci ng was excellent - thanks to the
Rainmaker the trac k was fresh from the
constant drizzle. And the riders did a
great job. Takes a lot of will to p ull t o
the line in th e rain an d ride the mud
under the lights. They are the program

Just after District 36 Competition
Committee got together to make
some cohesive steps, they tum
right around and show some
brilliant ignorance in their latest all
night round of rules.
This one concerns kits that are
manufactured and put on a lot of
motors, most scramblers, to use in
classes other
than
their original
displacement. The point being that a
guys with a 500 BSA sin gle can buy a
570 kit from a Triumph (NVT) dealer
and run the 650 class in scrambles while
being legal in terms of National rule
books, and that was con sidere d OK in
district
in
past
years.

Notwithstanding the good old da ys ,
when one ride r wanted to protest a 570
BSA winning a race , the scrambles
steward brought th e problem to th e
committee and the committee acted,
and in my opinion and the on ly
dissenting one on the vote, stupidly.
It is now illegal to .change or ki t your
motorcycle up or down, on anything
but a 650cc four stroke. like th e
Triumph/BSA/Yamaha from a 650 to
750 and the 185 Suzuki down to a 175.
This makes the con version from a 200cc
Sherpa to a 250 illegal, th e BSA single
illegal, the taking of a 125 an d sleeving
it down to a 100 and a co u ple of other
types t hat we can all think of easily.
Hopefully enough riders and dads will
see that t hi s is a bad rule and turn out
for the next meeting on May 12 or May .

talk to the blue coats and if you agree
with the new ru le, then get that o u t too .
The very bad part of the rule is that it
goes against the Nati onal policy in
regards to Scrambles and it may well
force about 3 0% of the riders in D·36 to
buy new motorcycles or return their
kitted motors back to something they
don 't want.
Th e AMA gave D·36 the right t o run
itself.
The decisions each District must
m ake should help to make it st ron ger
despite some bad rulings. The people
running th e show need help from th e
people who are running in the show.
St ay with it and help the sport survive.
