When the trail finally reached th e bottom o f th is cliff it st arted ru nning al on g a cre e k. Th e riding al ong thi s p ortion was relativel y easy which sho uld have been a warning of wha t was to co me. After th e creek it was m ore fire ro ads and trails which led you to an old minin g area. This is where most of th e people had their p ro blem s, a com bination of rain and sin king ground ca used by the mines in th e area crea ted so me of the most amazing mud h ole s I have ever seen . Man y people started to tum back at th is poin t o r try to find ways aro un d the bottlenecks th at were fo rm ing. As is usually th e cas e , th ese were cause d by a bottlenecks of slick Northern com bination Cali fornia mud and th e inexperience o f so m e of the riders on the co urse. Afte r the A riders had go ne by the hill s start ed to turn into muddy rutty quagm ires to wh ich more th an one b ike succ um be d. After th at th ere was nothing quite that serio us, although it was still very ch allen ging. There were a few ro ad cro ssings but th ey were well -manned an d produced n o tro uble . Th e gas ch ec k was at ap pro ximately 50 mile s. For the p eople wh o could n ot get th eir own gas o u t to t he gas pi t t he club sold !ras for $ 1 a gallo n . A littl e o ver-priced but it was a lon g walk back to cam p . The ride back was over different trails and was relativel y eas y comp ared to . p ortions o f th e first lo op. Over th e whole course th e ro ads we re rutted and th is pro d uce d some in te res t ing rid ing styles if yo u were try in g to m a ke up time. Course m arking was very good except ne ar th e end when som eone de cided it was tim e to tak e down all th e arrows and in so me cases put up \V's to co nfuse th e riders. . Back at cam p m an y o f the A riders co mm en te d on what a good end uro it was. 111ey also added th at it co uld have been tougher.
