It co ntained all the ingredients: water cross ings, mu d - lots of mud , trees, and hills. Ta king in to consideration the ro ugh terrain it was amazi ng that the top five people sco red such low n umbers. The winner Geo rge Hendix (4 0 0 Hus) came through with a min us one , Joh n Troutt (25 0 Hus) m inus two, Ben Bower (360 Hus) minus three, Jim Sparks (250 Pen) m inus three, an d Kevi n Ingallan (3 50 Yam) m inus five . Starting at the campground in the mi ddle o f Forest Hill t he course wo un d its way along the park boundaries on slick twisting trails and out o nto so me fireroads. When you started t o get too used to these fireroads they wo uld throw you off to the side o nto some twisting little trail that had all kin ds of branches hanging d o wn. stumps jutting out into th e trail , and logs laying across the trail. After the speed check things started to get more interesting but it was not until after th e first manned check that things really started ju m ping. About 50 yar ds down the road the trail made an abrupt right tum and headed straight down through the trees. It wo und its way down the hill and thro ugh the bus hes. ending in a five foot dr opoff. The trail, co mpletely co vere d over by branches of the trees. gave th e effect of riding down a lo n g gree n t un nel whose side s kept reach ing ou t to gra b yo u off t he motorcycle. After traveling down th e gree n tunnel fo r abo ut a half-m ile you d ro ppe d off the side aga in , th is ti me the d o w n h ill was amazing. It was long, steep , slick, an d rather ro ugh.
