The racers - t hey like th e rain . Tro y Luch in i, usuall y o ut in the 100 A class, took a RM 125 Su zu ki an d really d id his stuff. In the firs t m oto T roy sco red a DN F becau se o f bra ke tro uble an d the honors went to Ed Davis on a Honda , wi th Steve No len second. But moto two was the best o f th e night as the th ree Ex perts diced it o ut fo r th e chec ks. Aft er th e lead chan ging fun Luch ini came up first, Davis second and No len third. Th e firs t place money slipped into Ed Davis ' hand while No len took secon d spot. In other action Marvin Sy kes, 125 B (Ho n ) an d Brad Ho yt, 10 0 B class kept their ti e fo r series points with wins. Sykes took th e lead on both m o to s and kept out in front all the way. Brad White claimed a second and th ird for the second trophy. Todd Stewar d m ade his fo ur-two a third overall show. Terry Haskenson h ad so me t raffic problems the first m o t o but still put a three-fo ur together for fourth . second and Fursman th ird . Next race should be a good one. Dennis Bran d (Pen) didn't h ave much of a race in the 250 Expert class . Brand, a fairly new Expert, got ou t in the lead both rnotos and le ft them all in the weeds. The o ther Ex perts put on a show of th eir own. In the first rnoto , Duane Garrett (Mo n), wh o was ru nning in fifth took off like a ro cket an d pic ked the rid ers off on e an d two a t a time, end ing u p with second. J im Franklin (Hus), afte r battling with brother Mar k (Hus), fmished in th ird. In tile second m oto, Mark outrode brother Jim fo r seco nd. J im en de d up with a th ird in bo th rnotos, but still goo d en o ugh fo r second overall green stuff. The 125 Experts, nonnally a sm all class, turned out bi g. Pat Barnett (Ho n ), won the first moto with no troubl e, with David Berg (Hon) and Scott Karl (Hon), finishing behind him. In th e seco n d rnoto , Barnett had a good lead, until a spectator ran into him, givin g Steve Brand (Hon) th e first and Barnett and Karl second and third. Barnett had a happy ending to the run over racer story . . . . . J im Hunter (Ho n) o n his first ride in the class, not on ly got his fir st Amate ur win, but bested most o f th e Experts in th e co mbined races. As is usua lly th e case in t his area, th e 125 classes were th e most ex ci tin g, with Mark Morten sen taking fir st Exp ert, his b ro t her Mel taking seco nd Am at eur, and fath er Larry Mortensen ta king fir st No vice (all o n Hon da s). Even the minis were go ing fast , with Rick Van Tassel (Hon) an d Derek Standridge (Ho n) d oing all the battlin g. With t he next race heing the last point race for th e top 10 hi gh point troph ies, and with the top three ride rs in th e class, one didn 't dare bet who would win. Rick Ellison (Bul ), John Kellett (Ho n ) an d Ken Fu rsman (Hon) , all went · t o the starting lin e determined to win . The sec ond m o to was a revised co py o f t he fir st . Each bike and rid er deserved first place ho nor s, bu t be cause th e first and longest moto brok e a tie.
