WESTERVILLE, OH., APR. 21 Purse negotiations for the American Motorcycle Association Camel Pro Series road race at Road Atlanta in Gainesville, Georgia, have failed to produce a satisfactory arrangement and the June I event has been canceled by promoter Dave Sloyer. Slover's decision followed a telephone conference with AJlIA Director of Competition Bill Boyce and the AJlIA Grand National Championship Committee, which voted not to run the event fo r less than a $25,000 guaranteed purse. Road Atlanta originally requested a Camel Pro Series event carrying a $20,000 purse, $7,000 u nder the established m inimum for a National road race. AJI'IA Gran d National Committee m em bers refu sed the request an d Slo ver lat er agree d to a compromise $25,0 00 event. However, the promoter subsequently withdrew th e $25,0 00 offer, reve rted to the $ 20, 000 guarantee and re fus ed to go any highe r. " We are alway s willing to negotiate with promoters an d to . take in to co nsi deration th eir unique situations an d problems," sai d Boyce , wh o serves - as chairman of the Gra nd Natio nal ; Committee, stated. " But at a time when th e future of road racing in American is u nder serious consideration, the Co mmittee did not feel it wo uld be in the best in terest o f all parties to red uce the purse guarantee fo r a National Champ ionsh ip event to an amoun t $ 7,000 below the accepted minimum. That may offer a so lu t io n to road racing's dilemma, bu t any such decision will be mad e base d on input from all parties invo lved and by vote of the Professio nal Rul es Committee . Jaroslav Falta (CZ) swept to victory in both motos of the Austrian 250 Grand Prix followed by many time World Champion Joel Robert (Suz) . In the second moto Willi Bauer (Suz) managed to slip between the Falta·Robert duo to score third overall points for the two motos. Bultaco's Jim Pomeroy put together two excellent rides, a sixth in the first round followed by a fifth in the second, to score a fifth overall. It was Pomeroy's best performance in Grand Prix competition in some time. This year's young motocross sensation, Harry Everts [Puc], posted a third place score in the first moto, but dropped out of the top ten finishers in the final round.
