He finally locat ed an id eal piece of un zoned lan d and proceeded to b uild Mounta in View Cy cle Park , Congratulations to Ge ne Romero and Yamaha Winners'of the Daytona 2 0 0 Mile National Championship from Shelby Dowd Indust ries, manufacturers of t he Yamaha Star-Mag and Shelby Daytona cast alum inum wheels for Hondas and Kawasakis. T hank yo u, Gene Romero , Kenny Ro berts, and Team Yamaha f or setti ng t he new qualifying reco rd and winning t he 200 Mile Classic on wh eels, engineered and manufactu red by Shelby Dowd Indust r ies. Some of th ese were p ost ed alo ng with four other sign s of private busin esses w h i c h have rem ained untouched fo r as lo ng as five years. Today the county's fin est de cided to enforce th e law aga ins t it. Other trac ks in the area were also down on t he idea of a n ew track. Plans to h a ve Mt. V iew become CMC sanctioned Were b loc ked because the tracks operating last year ' formed an associati on to co m p ly with a quirk in O r eg o n's i n sur an c e l aw s . T hi s assoc iat ion is closed becau se th ey feel there arc: enough trac ks -near here now (even th o ugh o nly three are Sunday tracks). Not to o surp rising - t he we ather makers wer e down on the open ing day racing. Yesterday t he t ra c k was neat. th en it rained all n igh t an d created a sea of mud. Last , but no t least , even th e riders see med do wn on th e trac k. Afte r practice a gro u p o f the m ga the re d to complain abou t th e m ud, part icul arly on th e uphills. The tra ck was altere d to _ cut o u t the offen d ing hill s but t hey st ill wanted th eir m on ey back. As a good will gesture Ron gave rain checks to all who as ked fo r t hem.
