0 - Miles and miles of banners mark flat, twisty Good Saturday racing in Redding By Gary Kirkpatrick REDDI NG , CAL. , FEB. 22 Th e sun was sh ining and the ba nners were n apping in the cool breeze in Redding Sat urday as t he first race of the regional rough scrambles ch ampionsh ip go t underway . The rough scrambles course was in excellent co nd itio n with grass for traction and a big mudhole to cross. The riders raced two heats Satu rday and go t scored (as in motocross) for t he overall with the second he at breaking ties. K&G Enterprises has announced that all riders will be rid ing th ree heat s pe r day , time permitting. The series will run five straigh t Saturdays from February 22nd to l\larch 22 nd. High p oin t t ro phies will be awarded to th e top point runners in (l\lini -IOO), (125) , (250 ), (Open) classes . The poi n t system is based on the Gra nd Prix mo tocross system . Bob by Co llins, Maurice Merrill, Bob Fisher an d Randy Toreso n all di d a nu mber on th e J uniors to put themselves into In term ediate ran ks n ext Saturday . Bo b Hurst started the Experts off in th e first heat o n his 25 0 Honda, bu t with J eff Geist and Eric McK enn a cha rging ha rd o n their 12 5s it wasn't lo ng un ti l J eff and Eric wer e o u t fr o nt. Five laps went by un t il t hey had a lit tle tan gle and J eff wen t down . J eff got up and started putting t ract ion to the ground , b ut could n 't ma ke up eno ugh ti me . The second heat saw Bob Hurst grabbing a lead with J eff an d Eric zippi ng by agai n and Eric taking th e top spot. Jeff sta lled his b ike twice in a tigh t turn and Eric had the da y sewed up until, with two laps to go, his engi ne so ured. Bob Hu rst went on to win with Dennis Frisbie taking first 125 an d the • overall with a third in first heat. Res ults in Results Sec tion . .. moving? Well, HOT DO G!
