David Jenkins (Hon ) led the smallbore Novices all five laps o f the
Main, but when he came around
for the checkered, Mike Wesson
(Yam) found enough bite in the
sun-baked Porterville track to take
Jenkins right at the finish line for the
victory .
Richard Sing (Suz) had the 100cc
Junior lead all the race, c onstantly
harassed by fellow Suzuki rider Bob
Merriott. While Merriott was trying to
steal the lead from Sing , a hard-charging
Terry Sanderson (Yam) was coming up
from the back to battle with the
Suzukis. Things were tight on the last

co uple laps but when the dust settled,
everyone had held their p ositi ons .
The 360·500 Experts were running so
close the first half of lap one, it was
hard to determine who was going to
lead the big herd into the sweeper. Paul
Anderson (Yam) took the point into the
sweeper with Dave Baker (Suz) and
Steve Correia (Suz) following. Anderson
opened up his Yamaha on the second
lap and started pulling away from the
rest of the pack. Baker and Correia
fought a hard battle for second,
changing positions every time y ou
turned your head. When it was all over
it was Anderson one-wheelin' it down
the straight for the win, and Baker
finally man aged to p ut a little distance
between himself and third place finisher
Corre ia.
