• wins again!! ! o ..J ..J :n0 « u w > W lll) Wayne Cooke and Steve Holladay won "over all" the Parker 400 off-road race, riding a Honda 250 Elsinore "Give it to me straight, Doc, will you have to operate?" equipPed with saw Shocks and Springs and the new saw Fork Dampening Units .... for several laps until Preston finally sh ot by o n the straight. Pre st on nex t caught up to Dan Geery who was taking it so mewhat easy by n ow. Pres ton really go t Geery on his toes in a hurry. Preston started to apply the pressure but it got to him before it got to Geery. He crashed in p urs ui t of the other Honda rider. Geery cru ised in fo r his first overal l, Pat Wilson picked up second place money for his wo rk and third went to Jim Lenenski, Over 40 riders were entered in the 250 Pro class. The starting line would only hold 30 riders so Dick Mann decided to run two qualifying motos, a consolation moto, and a final moto. Many people were confused about the wh ole thing (including me), but everything seemed to work out in the en d. Ron Self (Mon) an d Jim Tu rn er (BuI) were winners of their qualifying races. Turner won his going away. Ron Self an d Mark Gibson (BuI) swappe d p ositions in their heat many ti mes and by t he time they got to the flag it sti ll looked like anybody's race. Self got the win with Gibs on just a few feet behind. John J o dry (Mon) took an immediate lead at the start of the final 250 race. J odry had picked up a fourth in h is qualifier race ea rlier in the day. Mark Gibson ru nning right behind J odry and was looking hungry for the win . Gibson pressured for a long time but Jodry held up just fine. In fact it was Gibson th at the pressure got to. Coming over one of the levee jumps Gibson en doe d hard. lie was out for most of the race but able to finish . While Cooke and Holladay were winning the Parker 400, AMA Grand National Champion, KeDDy Roberts was winning the Pro-Camel series TT at the Houston Astrododome . . . riding his Yamaha 750 equipped with saw Shocks and Springs and the new saw Fork DampeDing Units ... CA 92683 Meanwhile a big race was developing between Russ Powell, Ron Self and Dave Longcor for sec ond pl ace. Self got by Powell and so did Lo ngcor, so these two riders played ca t and mouse fo r awhile. It looked like neither Self nor Longcor would let off going into the turns and by the time they reached the finish flag it was so cl ose there was less than one bike's length be tween them. Longcor got the second place in that race and third overall and John J miry finished second to the overall winner Ron Self. • Results in Results Section . Mr. "Magoo" motors at Helvetia MX By Rex Backman SACRAMENTO, CAL., FEB . 16 Danny "~Iagoo" Chandler st o rm ed his way to a two moto sw eep over the 125 Expert class. Little Danny (he's smaller than Yokio Sugio) seemed to be in total co nt rol as he held off th e charges of Danny Turner (Hus) in the first moto and Pat Wilson (Hon) in the second to take home the money . Pat Wilson was second overall and Phil Crane managed to stay uprigh t on th e slic k, muddy co urse to get th ird place o verall. The 250 Expert class looked to be a Tom Rap p benefit as he led the first WFO traffic jam of 250 Pros at Helvetia. Tom (7 ) Rapp and a cast of thousands.
