Mulder (Tri) started th ings off by going the qu ick est in the time trials with a 43 .02. Eddie Lawson 's Cooper was a bike to ch ec k. It sported a 21 " fron t wheel with a trials tire, a fact that ca used some snide co mmen ts fro m fan s ne ar us. They di dn ' t have much to say wh en th e race was ove r. Eddie really lo oked good in the scramble fo r t urn one. Steve Fortune (Bul ) took the lead and pul led away gracefully. It would be safe to say that if h is cran k hadn 't blo wn a few lap s later there 'd have been no cat ching him. Eddie La wso n was movin g beauti fu lly, pulling up alon gside J im Allison (Kaw) over the jum p , setting h im up and th en passing on th e nex t left hander . Then he to o k o ver from J ohn Proto (Yam) for the win while Proto had to really h ang onto his sec o nd over Ric ky Graham (Kaw). (La wso n 's win is not official pending referee Chub Kellam 's investigation as to wh ether the Cooper is eligible to run. There was no actual protest.] There's always a best race of the day and this had to be the Junior Main. It was a full throttle drag to turn one, with three Yamahas le ading; Gerry Kole, Earl Roloff and Chuck Miller. Miller moved to seco n d then Roloff go t alon gside, passed, and the p air engaged in a wild passing back and fo rth situation. At one point, Roloff missed a shift and Miller got him on the straigh t only to be re -passed again. Roloff on that two-str oke Yamah a 500 was really after Kol e, then he over-cooked it in t he n o rth turn, went wide, and it was Mille r's time to get up th ere and worry Ko le, On the white flag lap th e p ace hadn't le t up. Ro loff regained his second spot fro m Miller and th en Gerry Kole lo cked it up an d ended in the infield, re-joining the race to end six th as Roloff wo n it. The Exp erts had a hard act to fo llo w. Terry Dorsch flew off the lin e, then carne Sonny Burres, Bob Sanders , Eddie Mulder and John Sperry (H. D) . Both Sanders and Burres gave it a good try but th ere was to be no catch ing Dorsch, as he pulled away. In th e esses , Bruce Hanlon got sideways on his Maico, wa s tapped by another rider and crashed. About lap five Bob Sanders was having a run at Paul Bostrum wh ile Jim Odom got by Mike Myers. Eddie Mulder now arrived and shot by Burres on the straight in to second. He was riding relentlessly but there was to be no catching Dorsch. John Sperry and his Harley were flying, passing Paul Bostrum and Mike Myers to get into fourth. Jim Odom was right in there as Sperry had passed him on the straight just as J im reached up to rip off a tearaway, but Odom re-p assed again and went after Burres. Results in Results Section . High school action at Ascot By Tom Blattler ASCOT PARK, CALIF. , FE B. 2 1, 1975 Arroyo High 's David Tay lor was finally defeated in the S.A.M. High School Mo to cross qualifiers for the Super Bowl of Mo to cro ss, bu t Taylo r still cap tured th e o verall victory in the 12 5 Expert Division. Taylor (Ho n) suffered a poor st art in th e opening moto bu t was able to move th rough the pac k and grab the lead. On the seventh lap of the ten lap moto on th e 3{4 mil e co u rse , the cha in fell off of Taylor's b ike and South Gate 's Mar k Lawren ce was able to move by for the lead. Taylor was able to fix his chain , and jump back into the race. David ended up third in the first moto behind Lawrence and Long Beach Millikan High's Cliff Lett. Taylo r then returned in th e second mot o to easily _ t ur e the number o ne cap position wit h Franklin 's Kelly Owen placin g second and th ird goi ng to Lett. In th e third moto, Taylor once again High Sch ool Motocross got off to a goo d sta rt a t Corona with a fine spe ctator rid er tum ou t. Rubidoux H.S. ta llied 155 p oints to ta ke t he overall win for the night, with Alta Lorna chalking up 88 poin ts. Eisenhower got 74 , Pomon a sco red 41, an d Reghet t i 19. Davi d Williams (Rubidoux, Ho n) swe pt up the o verall win in th e 125 Senior class. At th e gree n ligh t J effreys sped ac ross the flat start as th o ugh he had been sh ot o ut of a roc ket. At th e base of the hill he tac ked to the left, th en to the righ t, and back again to th e left. Meanwhile, in th e o pp osite lane Mucsionte ha d come to a hal t . Jeffreys' m in icycle finally stopped more than halfway up th e drag hill . Th e only p ro blem now was getting back do wn . No one h ad ever taugh t h im h ow to ri de d o wnhill an d he ha d never been fa r en o ugh up a hill to worry ab o ut it. His father finall y h ad to co me up an d ta ke t he bike down for him . J effre ys ' effo rt was not en ough as h e fell to defeat behind such old pros as Micky Dymond and Chris Bridges o n th eir much bigger bikes. Lately it seemed as though the 360 an d 400 stockers were becoming more popular th an the 250s. But today th e 250s turned out in force again. Although so me of the regulars we re n't on the scene , this class still domin ated.
