Richmon d challenged Howard for a time. made hi s move and finally, down the ba ck straight go t by Sullivan and into the lead. The 125s had three heats, and Steve Woskoski (Yam ) won th e first. Wayne Rainey (H on) an d Rich Delgato (Yam ) set tled th e second with Rainey winning while Mike Minnig (Ya m) won the third an d fastest. For th e main it was Mi ke Minnig and Wayne Raine y o n the winner's line. Th e gan g was an xious, the wh ole front line wanting to jump but starter Rox y Rockwood held them and Gordon Kidd (Yam ) go t the lead. Then he alm ost lost it and dropped back. One rider fell co ming out o f th e fourth tum and th e guy behind him did a fine job in trying to jump the fallen bike . He practica lly succeeded but went head on in to the wall. Thank God for those hay bal es ! In th e panic that fo llo we d, two more went down. Derek Lund (Yam ) from Porterville cam e in the win ner with Wayne Rain ey (Hon) seco nd as the race ended there was no time. Happily , when all the debris was tidied up no on e was seriously hurt. The 250·36 0 clas s gro ws in numbers each wee k with the rid ers holding professi on al cards anxious to earn those precious advancement points. First heat it was Paul Anderson (Yam) who came off th e line to ta ke and hold the lead. Rick Graham (Kaw) was d oing 'em in during th e sec o nd heat but started m aking partial seizure noises and Craig Armstrong (Ya m ) wo n it. Bakersfield's Kirb y Shropshire (Yam) turned the fastest heat with a 1. 14 . 70 . From the o u tside position Terry Griner (Yam) follo wed Steve Fortune (Ya m) in to tum one at th e sta rt of the main with Don grigsby in th ird.
