is no age maximum or minimum in the 125 and the Mini-Cycle is open to any rider who has not re ached his 14th bi rth da y . The 250/3 6 0 (Pro-Am) class is also open to a ny rid er, with n o age lim it , b ut is already finding a heavy en try a fte r only t wo wee ks of runnin g. The sea so n started on th e quarte r-mile. On March 7th we will switch to a ne w T.T. course for a few wee ks. Then we will go to the half-m ile for a few weeks, prob ab ly ar ound th e e nd o f Mar ch. La te r it will be back to the qu arter-mil e, etc., rotating the three types o f tr ac ks t h rough o ut th e season. The ide a of the p ro gram is to give ne w riders a pl ac e to learn a nd fo r riders and parents bothto findout if th eir son o r d au ghter re all y wa n ts t o be , or is, a rac er. As much as possib le . we try to give all ride rs at leas t t wo rides pe r n igh t an d always m o re th an enough p ra ctic e. Presently th e rac es are be ing run every Fri day nigh t. St arting in April the even ts will move to an o th er night during the week as the professional half-milers ta ke over Fridays at th at time. . We have re ad m an y times ab o u t the de sire of p arents to train their young ones in the art of racing. Ascot offers the be st training track and courses in the country wi th safety the key password. The Mini class a wa rd s five trophies ea ch ni ght, pl us Ascot season points. The 125 clas s a wa rds trophies t o th e first th ree, plus Asc ot points. Both clas ses will also receive contingency awards at the en d o f the seaso n . The requirements are simple. An AMA m embership card , th at can be ob tai ned a t the sign-in gate, an assigned number and number pl ates (t hat can also be obtai ned a t the track) and an ap p rove d helmet. That takes ca re of 99% of the re quire m en ts. The program is se t up to create different winners every week. We want to give every rid er a chance at learning a nd winnin g. We are not baby-sitters but will watch and te ach on a weekly basis from six p .m. to 10 p .m. one nigh t a week from now until No vember. We gu arantee that y o u and yo u r so n o r daughter will find out if yo u have a racer in the family or not. Win o r lose it will be fu n from st art to fin ish . Again, we want to build th e Min i-Cycle class (8 0cc top) and the 125cc class. If y o u r so n or daugh te r has ye t to ride the ir first race then bring them down to Ascot as th ey can joi n, sign in and receive at least 30-50 p ra ctice laps each week without h avin g to ac tually co m pe te in th e heats, se m is and finals.
