Bo b Ballentine, like Hasten, came fro m nowhere and worked h is way up to third overall , with Dan Dawso n , on his Mission Hills tuned Husky , following him. Dave Lapraik an d Wayne Cook were fifth a nd six th overall, a nd the first t wo Checkers through . Firs t Trailbike th rough the pits was Larry Roeseler, followed b y Ch arlie Hamill , who oversh ot h is pi ts a nd had to turn around. Th e fir st No vic e th ro ugh th e p it s was Tracy Walters, with Mark Harris ab out 30 second s b ehind. Next Novice through was Luc ky :\Ierrit. Scott Pfeiffe r, late r d estined t o go o n to win, Motocross at Coron a Racewa y. In the 125 Senior class George Forte (No rte Vi sta) to ok fir st s in all th ree mote s, with T o m m y Burt pulling straigh t seconds fo r Hemet. Corona 's Rick Sherman placed third overall. Forte showed up in th e 17 5 Se nior class , doing great in the first t wo m o to s, but had to d rop o u t of the th ird whe n his chain broke. Ken Trask fou nd h im self two seconds and a thi rd to bring in a firs t overall fo r Palm Springs.
