Everythi ng goes in cycles, including the Cycle News b usiness, so it
should come as no great surprise
to th ose who have been with us
more than seven years to learn
that Gil Bro wn is back with these
newspapers after having his fling
with the moto-monthlies. All is
forgiven; the statute of limitations is
expired and we welcome Gil back. Just
in the nick of time, too ! The
motorcycle business is flattening out
and Gil and we agree that Something
Has To Be Done.
What's needed is more of a sense of
fun
in
everything to
do with
motorcycling. Gil has that to sp are.
"Motorcycles are many things but
mainly they are there to be enjoyed,"
Gil believes. We agree. That 's not so
easy when money is low and prices seem
high, as now. But Cycle News and Gil
Brown have mastered that dragon
before (Gil was our first ad manager for
two years) and we all look forward to
even greater enjoyment now that he is
back again.
Gil is presently reacquainting himself
with procedures at Cycle News' Long
Beach, California headquarters, prior to
his taking charge of the Central office in
Aus ti n, Texas about January 1, 1975 .
His authority is undefined, but Gil
Bro wn says h e wants the number o ne
du t y - Publisher of Cycle News, Inc .
That posit ion is pres ently held by " th e
Firs t Lady of Motorcycling" Sharon
Clayton, who says of his chances,
" nothing is impossible where Cycle
News is co ncer ned."

No mo to rcycle event before in
history has had quite so much
advance p ublicity as this Saturday's Barstow-to -Vegas Hare 'n'
Hound. Unfortunately, the media
have ' dwel t upon the negative or I
sho uld say allegedly negative aspects of the event, but I suppose
we sho uld be thankful to our noble
opposition, the Sierra Club et, al. for
helping make one of our o utings
