Ulri ch The last time we told you about the Breezer tire to ol, sold by an o ut fit known as "Rojcn B," the word -was that the thing worked, even ifit did cost $7 .95. Wondrous as it may seem in these inflationary times . the Breezer still sells for $7.95, but ours doesn't still work. It last ed ex actly three and o ne-half tir e changes. Many peop le d o n 't change tha t many tires in a year, but we 've go t a lo t of ti re switching to do, road raci ng and enduro rid in g th e same bike. Th e first time we used the gadget, its no r-so -ob vio us construction surfaced. The bo tt om half, which works on th e rim to pry on or off the bead . is soli d alloy, an d the top is alloy pipe wi th a rubber grip and a cap plug in the end. The hollow handl e is to absorb the shoc k of beating on the solid end of the to ol with a hamm er . which is ho w you move it around the rim to remo ve o r inst all th e tire without pinching the tube. T he ca p po pped off while mounting the second tire. When th e t im e came to change to a new set of K8 1s, the to ol removed th e firs t o ld tire and replaced th e fi rs t ne w t ire with ou t in ciden t. But halfway thro ugh rem o ving th e second o ld o ne, it sta rt ed to be nd to one side a bi t. It di d n't break co m p letely in two until halfway thro ugh mounting the second new tire. If yo u buy a Breezer to avo id the hazards of using tire irons and the thing breaks in two mi d -way through th e job, yo u're stuck unl ess yo u have a spare. Co nsiderin g the cost of tubes th ese days, maybe buyin g two Breezers is still a de al.
