(Hon ) and Brad Lecklider (Can-Am )
crashed on th e big d ownhill in nail
biting fas hion b ut apparently lost
no th in g m ore than a bit of hi de and a
lot of pride .
Mark Gregson (Hon ) t ook the le ad in
125 Pro R ound On e with Mitch
Simmons (Hon ) h o t after him to ta ke

Among th ese were Rick Burge tt

Williams ne ver quite mad e it up but
Burgett started up through th e pack . He
was in fou rth and pu shing hard on Ric
Burkinshaw (Ho n) wh en they wen t into
a tigh t com er . Burkinshaw slowed
suddenly and Burgett went ou ts ide th e
be rm to avoid hitting him. dropping to
fifth . That proved to be a co stl y move.
Burgett wen t on to pass o ne and all
by the checkered but was penalized for
cuttin g (? ) the co urse. (It see m ed
strange that several Open junior rid ers
weren 't also pen alized for being just as
fa r off the course fo r the same reason in
th e firs t scratch. Politics?) Si mmons was
ha nded the win . Burgett ret urned in th e
second moto bu t his Bu l went to
pasture in the third lap an d Si mmons
wound u p wi th all thr ee w ins.
In the first 250 Pro ra ce Chuck Sun
gained en ough time when Burgett laid it
down to take the w in and get th e edge
for th e Over all while nearl y half the rest

Sun came back in the Open Pro with

Noble (Mai ) moved u p from an eigh th
place first lap to win. Bob Leach (Mai)
held th e lead until he fouled a p lug - a
chronic condition for h im before the
