Moto one Torlief Han sen was the q uic kes t at the gate - as he was to be in the sec o nd moto - b roads lid ing con fidently ah ead of the pa ck into the first turn co m p letely sideways. Righ t beh in d him came British Bult aco rid ers Malcol m Davis and Vic Allan . Harry Everts (Puc) w as fifth, with Moisseiev (KTM) on his tail , and Falta way back in se venteenth o n th e first lap. Malco lm Davis knows this circ uit like t he back of his hand , and rode well fo r the first five circuits. before he and Allan were overhauled by Everts. Davis began to get tired and sli pped back, b ut Allan set off in p urs uit of the super-q ui ck Belgian. Up fro nt, Hansen st alled on one of t he h airp in s wh en h is back whee l h op ped off the gro und , an d Eve rts was righ t up o n him as th e y came to th e hill. So fast was thei r pace , they caugh t lead e r Everts just as t he Belgian was starting to get ragged after forty exhausti ng m in u t es. Second moto Han sen led fro m the gate again, wit h Rule v pushing hi m hard in the early stages. Br itish ho pes we re dashed early. as Allan fell , jamming his throttle open . Davis was struck by a rock dislocating two fingers . But two men were to dominate the moto: Jaroslav Falla and Hans Maisch -both behind Hanse n . Falta, riding like a futu re champion, was right on Han sen's tail at halfway point, sweeping up beside h im on the faster straigh ts, an d nipping in at e very turn. First he got b y, the n Ha nsen fought back past. T he n, on lap n ine , Falta p ul led o ut the stops o utbraking the Sw ede dow n hill, a nd ro cke t ing u p t he next asce nt. Once o ut in front, Fal ta loo ked un be at ab le. Bu t, o n lap 12 as he landed off the fas t artificial j um p, his back tire co lla psed against th e rim , sendi ng t he Czech in to a 50-yard m ani ac whe elie. Someh ow , he controlled it, an d , stayed on th e CZ . But Hansen had see n it, and was up o n him , overpoweri ng h im o n o ne of th e up hills. He got the message, t u rned on the Maico, and ca ugh t and passed the unfo rtu nate Falta, Then cam e Moisseiev, happy to s e e hi s nearest rival f or the championship floundering a round on a • flat. A less-than-happy Everts, foll owed by Pa vel R ul e v (KTM) an d Bel gian Raymond Boven on Montesa exerted th em s e l ve s to rub in Falla's disappoin t ment. Han sen to ok the flag, master of the day , an d demonstrated who was in charge with his grandstandi ng an ti cs.
