Scram bles May 25 D uane Cru mley (Yam) was very consiste n t to nigh t and came up with a win in th e Trophy Dash an d the 125 A Main . Gary Da vis (Ho n) won th e B Main then transfe rred to th e A t o tak e sec o nd. Ch ar les An drews (Hon) w as third. Once Gary Davis was leading the 250 A Main he just m ad e h im sel f at home right dow n to the checkere d flag . He was followed by Lester Huey (Suz) and Rick Oliver (Bu l). Lester Huey won the Trophy Dash. Delbert Spinney ( Bul) had to battle Jack Heeter (CZ) for the Open Trophy Das h win. Sp in n ey got by Heeter on the last lap. In the Open A Main action Spinney poured the coals to his Bul to get ahead of Heeter and Bill Oliver (Bul). Gary Da vis was th e big winner tonigh t. If he could find tw o m o re bi kes he co uld rid e every class. Del Sp inn ey was nex t in the mo ney wi th a third to Duane Crum ley . e Disappearing for two weeks didn 't do Pat Brown any harm. He ro de an enduro one week and the Virgina City Grand Prix another, came back still in first place and went out and won the 250 Expert Main. Pat and his co nve rted Sherpa Bultaco are n't doing anything for the sales of new bikes but are m ak ing quite a nam e in the: business of racing, With six races co m pleted. Brow n has w o n four o utright, leads the Fremont p oin t tall y and has m oved in t o t he to p te n in Distri ct 36 Blac k Pla te poin ts. All th at with racing just a fun past im e for th e 18 year-old high school sen ior. Danney Hogue to ok th e 650 Expert Main on his firs t o u t ing. no easy task at all. He beat o ut Dennis Spence afte r father, Duane Spence. ha d to pull off with a dan glin g muffler. Hogue also took home t hird 25 0 Ex pe rt trophy. Mark Smith came o ut for his second straight Fremont scrambles and won the combined 350/500 Expert Main on his Champion-fr amed Honda, followed ever so closely by Rick Hocking on Ernie Vick's similar mount. The pump single's only competition came from Steve Eklund who gave it hi. best shot. bu t just c o u l d n ' t ge t around the super-prepared Schwenna machines. Some controversy surrounds t he 175 Novice class w here acc usi ng fingers are being thrown about o n t he subject of who is legal and wh o isn't. Spencer Riversid e Sp eedway held their first race of the season to nigh t wit h a purse o f $1000 for the winners. Excitement was in the air as ride rs turned their thro ttl es on hoping to take some of the green stuff home with them. In th e 100 A Main Steve Copley (Yam) was firs t off the line with Duane Crumley (Yam) close behind. Crumley m ade his m ove on the second lap and was in the lead th e rest of the race . Copley took second with a th ir d to Chet Davis (Yam). Trophy Dash winner was Steve Copley. Vietor: Delbert Spin ney (Bull, Open class w inner. With traction at its best , it was tough eno ugh to make the 12 man Main and some really good rid ers were eliminated in the heats. For the 10 lap Main, Orlando too k the fro n t spot an d was never headed for the distance with Scott Pearson and Ted Davidson swapping spots through the turns and st raights for second . They we re so wrapped up in each other and their moves that they missed Manuel Datan who got by Davidson first when the Kawasaki got FRE MO NT, CAL.• MAY 27 J ohn Silva and J ack Jensen teamed to take the win s in both the 250 and Open classes topped by two clo se hou rs of raci ng in each class, Ron True led the first fo ur laps of the Op en wi th Gary Van d erpool do ing his usual super job in second aboard his trusty Husky. Jensen (Bul) got by Vanderpool on the third lap. then we nt on to ta ke th e lead two laps later with the Trask Trials Silver Medal winner tenaciously hanging o nto second while the m o t oc ro sser kept up the torrid pace. A ll the while , Mike Peavler. Scott Pearson , John Hlebo and Dave Bellina we re less than a few yards back keeping everybody honest.
