Western riders have been get ting read y at Ascot, San Diego and a one-shorter on the San J ose half-m ile. It will b e the firs t sh owing and test for the new 750cc dirt track machines. Afte r three National ra ces the brand scoreboard re ads one win each fo r Triumph , Honda and Yamaha. As everbody knows the Honda win came in the Texas short track and the brand will not contest any big bike Nationals this year - or will they? Rumors keep com ing out of the San Francisco area that there just might be a four cylinder Honda 750 entered at San. Jose with rookie Rick Hocking behind th e bars. As everybody also knows, the Yamaha win , or sw ee p . came at Daytona with the new four cylinder model that will ab sol utely not be entered in National dirt track races. In fact, the machine h as become so involved in European road racing politics that it is being treated like the A-bomb in certain areas. T his boils th e former winning ma chines down to Triumph. Many of the Triumph riders have deserted the c a m p in favor of Yamaha and Harley-Davidson since last season. Spare parts have been arriving by carrier pig eon, and one guy was shooting the pigeons somewhere over Nova Scotia.
