Maico Day in the Valley By G.J, MOORPARK , CA L ., A PR. 28 Off th e line in th e first moto was Mik e Puklus, J oe Root and Rand y Berk ly in t hat order. By t he th ird lap , Mik e see me d to lose just a bit o f his co ncentration as he let J oe 's BuIt aco b y . Mik e an d J oe battled fo r the lead when, all of a sudden co mes the Maico of Bill Payne. He had seemed co n te n t with th ird place u n t il the " S eve n Lap Itch" got the best of h im . Bill then passed Joe and took the wi n. Mo t o two was a different story altoget her. Tony Lanzarone 's Maico got the better of Payne. who chose to se ttle for second and the Overall victory . The 250 Experts were defeated by Maico-moun t ed A llen Cooke. l\lark White , Mike Pace. and Paul Boudreau all finis hed th e day tied at five point s apiece but Marks first in th e final mo to m ad e the difference and Bo ud rea u and his new Kawasa k i were se cond . Lasses but not beasts were the pretty Powder Puffs. Paulette Xapo len e (S uz) and Kim Herbert were the early leade rs and had quite a duel going until Paulette broke down. Kim then eased her Honda into the lead and she kept it. A fouro ne finish wasn't quite good enough to give him the loot today as Drew Nelson (YZ) took advantage and tagged the 250 Expert title with a one-two placing over Scott Miller (Hus) who w as tw o -th ree . As a result of having so many bikes, the nat track a nd IT were switched to Wednesday starti ng )\lay first, wi th the Mot ocross still cornpe ting every Thursday night at i :30 p .m , Y a m a ha -mounred Derril Fe rreira won all three motos in the Beginner class mo tocross . The 250cc Seniors were also d o rn i n a t e d by one rider, as Maico-moun ted Brad Lvnch ran off and hid from th e rest of the fie ld and captured all three mo lOS . Then Dave l\liller of Flyin" Machin e Fa ctory gassed it o n by for the win on his Penton-Zundapp. !lob Haag (Hus) was . after Miller .b u t still whipped Lett and Dave Williams ( Pen). The second rnoto became a turning point w hen l\liller swapped and bashed machines with Le tt , so Haag got the clean win. Miller was rappin ' with some b uddies la ter w he n so me m a n iac ove rs ho t th e track corner by the scorer's bo o th and p ut t ire t racks o n hi s back.
