The April 7 FIM Imola event has been changed from a Formula 750 competition to an open race. Th is change comes in direct result of the FIM's Technical Commission and Bureau Central's meetings concerning the homologation rule and the Yamaha YZR 700. The Imola race therefore will not count in FIM formula 750 standings. The bi kes will no t be sold in th e U.S. Long Beach Safety Council has been awarded a $10,000 contract to provide training in the safe operation of motorcycles for DMV examiners by the State Office of Traffic Safety. The contract was the direct result of analysis of accident figures and the resultant conclusion that a tighter rein must be placed on the beginning rider. The other day a staffer was in Long Beach and happened to catch a group of young sailors going into a rent-a-bike place.
