EW KLOTZ 40:1 Streaking on asphalt FINNED By Greg Cain/Creative Images , I ' ALUMINUM KONIS ONTARIO, CAL., MA R. 17 The opening of the AFM road race at Ontario was really one for the books. How would you like to be lined up on the starting gridwaiung to bring the crowd to its feet and then find out that no one (not even the starter) is paying any attention to you? That's how it happened. A man and a woman d ressed in the leathers they were born in toured the course to steal the show to cheers of the crowd. T he teams of J arman / Gervais (Ho n) and Benderj Weisberg (Kaw) had about the closest side hac k rac e run on a ro ad course . The two teams traded th e lead three times clearl y and the rest of t he time th ey were side by side. J arman/Gervais took the lead on the last lap in turn 15 and held it. It was very close. T he big winners of the day were broken into two classes. Big: Kawasaki. Little : Yamaha. In the 50 cc GP class Fast Eddie Lawson of TT and Half-mile fa me lead the race all t he way to t he white flag lap wh en his Ital ' sei zed up and Steve Zimmerman took over for th e victory . 25 0 and 350 classes were dominated by the Yamaha riders, but one 250 Production win went to an Ossa ridden by Dave Garoutte. Marty Lunde and 'Ro n Pierce ran aw ay with the 250 GP lapping riders on all of t he last fo ur laps. Art Baumann (Open GP) and Mike Pariott (O pen Prod) eac h won on Kawasakis without a threat from anyone. Parriott came back after winning th e Open Production cl ass and really put the big Kawasaki on the Superstreet class. The only way to close the show was with steakers, In full non -un iform they rode t he entire course again, this time with an am bulance fo llowing with Red Lights flashing. That's a fine way to end a fine day of racing. • Results SHOCK HOUSINGS FOR / $35 0 0 per set ·REPLACES STEEL HOUSING • MACH INED FROM SOLID STOCK 50cc GP: 1 . Steve Z i m m er m an (Ita) ; 2.
