100 class action was R and y Binde r (Yam) a n d Ru st in Gore (Ya m) ou tdis tancing everyone. These two p ut on qui te a show. Binder won t he first two motos with Gore taking the third. T hey say the winner is the guy who doesn't m ak e any m ista kes. Maybe next race it will be Rustin Gore? Another close race was the 200 class. First moto show was Chet Ca mpbell (Pen) fast off the line with Pat Healey (Puch) on his back tire. Healey got by Campbell and won the first moto. Second moto, Campbell again off the line first led it all the way with Healey very close. Third moto was the same story Campbell in the lead w ith Healey pressing close behind. Healey look over the lead and lost it. Campbell held the lead until the white flag when Healey made his move and won. Not a bad show for "Do ug Wiley (Yam) in the 250 Junior class. Wiley had no trouble winning all three motos. In the 250 Expert class there was a lot of fast action . First moto brought Brad Hurst (Suz) out in the lead with Steve Williams (Mon) and Keith Nerseth (Pen) righ t on him . Williams too k over for first place wi th Nerseth laking second an d a close thi rd to Hurst. In the second go, Hurst again first off th e line . William s was in second with Nerseth closing the gap. Willia ms p ressing h ard , fell, and Nerse th was second. Williams ta king up t he chase again had a taste of the d irt but stayed in the race to take a third. Hurst was in front all the way with Nerse th taking second. Third moto, Williams being the fine rider he is, was out in front all the way. Hurst was second with a third to Skeet Hise (Mon). Williams took first overall for the day with a close second to Hurst. Modified Minibike rider Loren Erickson (Hon) did it agai n. Erickson took overall first for the day with a second to Tony Blanton (Hon). Shawn Steinback (Hon) was third. Dave Weleber (Hus) won all three motos in the Open Junior class. Open Expert action was again controlled by Charles Standeford (CZ) an d Jack Heeter (CZ). The most interesting race was the 125 Inter-group. Pa ul Weber won two of the 'th ree motos an d was second in the other but behind him it was a tight shuffle in all three motos. Mark Newberry sq uee ked into second. Bill McCormick (Yam) came back to win the 100 Junior after a first moto endo, Rick Bates (Hon) took the big brass in the 125 Junior with two wins. Mike Fearn (Mnk) won the final race and second overall. Barney Newman (Pen) took the checkered all the way in the 125 Expert. John Brown (Hon) was right be hind for second. Once again Ch uck Hagen (Hus) won the 250 Junior class as they rode with the Intermediates. Rod Kentner (Yam) is also a familiar winner in the Intermediates. Jerry Larson won the first race on a Penton but yielded to Kentner in the final two. T he Open Junior and Intermediate classes also ran together. T he eve r growing co mpetition between Jim Newman (Kaw) and Denny Howard (Hus) gets tighter every race. Each had a win be hin d hi m wh en the final m o to ca me around. At the flag Newman was less than a b ik e length ahead o f Howard. Dave Ekerso n (Mai) won t he Interm ed iate tro phy and also was winner of $25 in a drawing which is now held each week for trophy winners . Barney Newman (Mon) tr ied to sweep righ t thro ugh all the Expert races but somebody swiped h is broom. After winning the first two Open Expert motos he was unable to start his bike for the fina l race. Randy Limbeck and Kevin Nofziger traded t he lead a couple of times on their Hondas before Limbeck look the win to put him in first overall. Newman finally got started Barney Newman (Monl won th e first tw o 250 Expert motos. halfway through the race when he found his prob lem was water in his gas. The new track offered good traction throughout the day. Bill Grossi looked like he was connected to the proverbial wire as he maintained perfect control through both races. Bill was riding a basically stock Elsinore save the mo ve d -up rear suspension which everybody seems to be running nowadays. Grossi won both 30 minute races with a wide margin over second place Ron Self, who is now riding for Pen ton -West, Dan Turner pushed his Coleman sponsored Husqvarna to third overall. John Dieu put two seconds together to pick up the win in the Open Expert class. Russ Powell played the meanie and gave John a good race for the money . Russ took his Honda in for second overall. Coming in third was Maico mounted Mike Hammel. Mike Phillips (Mai) had a race going in the Open Inte rmediate class with Ray Arndt also riding a Maico. They both led for awhile but Mike came out ahead and picked up the win. Ray had to be co ntent with second, Kim Blacksmith came in for thi rd on h is CZ . Paul Joh nson co mpletely wiped-o ut the rest of the 125 Intermedia tes . He won both motos with apparent ease . Dave Robison (Suz) rode a good race and picked up second overall. • Results Mini : 1.
