some hawaII of the riders managed to walk out of the building under their own power even if they did limp a litLle. Darrel Hendrickson of seattle was on the receiving end of a rather heavy push into the boards in the main event, but he shook the stars out of his head to the cheers of the crowd and walked off on his own. Duane Hendrickson of Seattle got Ilis act together by winning both the 125cc and 360cc main event and went home with the lions share of the purse edging out national number 35, Randy Skiver of Everett who rode Butch Brown's Clarke Simpkins Honda's, while Brown is out for a few weeks with a broken arm, to second place in both money classes. These two did some very close raicng and they both had a lot of tire marks on the sides of their bikes. The little Mini class went to John Christian from Kirkland, Washington on a Redmond Honda and the Super Mini class winner was Brian :Dahl from Seattle on a Honda. What these little guys give away in size they make up for in speed as their times are no t that much slower than the bigger riders. Thirteen year old Debbie Saenz from Tumwater on a Cycle Town Indian once again started from the -penalty line by choice in the Powder Puff class to be first into the corner and win every event for the Powder Puffs. Like the ad say's "It's the water" or what ever makes Debbie go so fast. Old Timer Dick Langlois from Vancouver on his Montesa returned to the indoor racing to win his heat, trophy dash and main, but not without a lot of cahsing from the rest of the pack. The way some of these old dudes ride and bump each other in the corners we'll have to see about covering them in rubber so that they make it to collect their pension checks. CMC North at Sunnyvale By Steve Castillo Photos By Bob Anderson Len Macchiarella. A quick adaptation. Williames also kept the first spot with Skeet Hise (Han) in second. Mark Williams came in third. Third mota was the same story with Williames number one and Hise number two. Nerseth took a third. Mark Williams did not ride the third mota. Open Junior first overall for the day went to Bob Malpass (Yam). Second went to Mel Beaitie (Yam), with third going to Kei th Crabb (Yam). Open Expert action gave Jack Heeter the overall honors of the day. Itwas Charles Standeford (CZ) who gave Hetter (CZ) the most trouble all day. Standeford took second overall. ext race Novemher 18, then December 2. See ya then. How big is big? Jeff Abbott at Eugene. SUNNYVALE, CAL., NOV. 4 Cloverdale Indoor CLOVERDALE, WASH., OCT. 27 Sixty-eight riders and a sparse crowd of only 400 came out to the Cloverdale motorcycle races. All the heavies showed up from Washington to crunch each other into the boards. With the likes of Randy Skiver, the Hendrickson twins and Mike McClain trying for first things get a little tight in the comers. Some of the 360cc racing looked like an attempt at elimination of bodies rather than trying to win. But Len Macchiarella came to Sunnyvale intent on riding his Montesa VR, but a flat rear tire in practice ended that. The day was not in vain however, as Dave Marcin loaned Len his 250 Kawasaki. Len adapted to the bike rather 'luickly. In the race Len went pretty fast, which is usual for him, bu t he didn't crash, which is an unusual thing for him. Macchiarella picked up two firsts. Mike Urhan, astride his Yamaha, came in for second. Scott Raymes (Suz) picked up the win in the 125 Intermediate class for the second week in a row. Scott seems to he getting faster each week. Bob Geefert (Han) rode quickly enough to get second overall. Geefert really seems w have can trolled his throttle hand and does pretty well. Neal Snarr (Han) continued his domination of the mini-bike class at Sunnyvale by notching another win for himself. Regular Sunnyvale rider Jeff Doyle picked up second overall and Mark Olund brought his Yamaha in for third. Old Timers action found wee Willie Lothrop out in front on his trusty Husky. Frank Whitter came in for a fine second on his Penton Jackpiner, Richard Olson brought his Maico in for third ove.rall. San Jose Riots (7) Begin By Bill Spencer SAN JOSE, CAL., NOV. 2 One hour before the gates were to open, the track was complete, swept, and in its state of three years prior, when it was last used. The San Jose "riots" werc dubbed in the old days when Chuck Guliu:lZO used to be the starter and would need armed escort out of the arena after the races were over for fear of physical violence.
