If your thing wasn't mud ,racing you were in for trouble. There was some snow mixed with the rain most of the day. It was cold. This was a race you would have to see to believe and appreciate the funny situations the riders got themselves into. The spectators were given quite a show. The track played no favorites. From the Minibikes to the Experts it was the same story; up to their knees in mud at times. Some of the bikes all but disappeared from view along with their riders. Riders did not like to push their bikes over the finish line. Even the Minibike riders would stand in knee deep mud, six feet from the finish line and work to get their bikes started. Most succeeded but many riders gave up earlier in the day and many broke down. In the Box Stock Minibike class Oley Grover on' a Honda took first place. Mark Moriarty (Hon) claimed second with third going to Richard Burtch (Yam). Modified Minibike action saw John Wincewicz (Chap) in the first moto leading with Loren Erickson (Hon) coming in close for a second. In the second moto things changed. Erickson plowed through the mud to take first 'with Shawn Steinback (Hon) and Mark Campbell (Hon) taking second and third. In the third moto two bikes were left, Loren Erickson and Steinback made it through the last moto. Campbell ran out of gas. Overall first· place. went to EriCkson with Steinback claiming second. Believe it or not this class started out with a lot of bikes. GuesS the mud ate them up. In the 100 class Randy Binder (Yam) won all three motos. Dan Worthington (Bul) took second overall for the day with third going to Judy San Martin (Yam). The 125 Junior class had two heats of riders. In the first heat Ed Hill (Suz) claimed first overall for the day with second going to Wayne Olson (Hon). Third place went to Larry VancurIer (Suz) .. Second heat winner was Bill Hayes (Yam) with second going to Bill McCormick (Yam). Rick Wirtz (Hon) took third overall for the day. Kent Goar (Hon) took overall top honors in the 125 Expert class. Gary Davis (Hon) claimed a close second with third place going to Brad Hurst (Hon). The 200 class action gave Charles Andrews (Hon) a walk away win of all three motos. Al Muse (Suz) took second for the day with a third going to Arnold Burtch (Suz). Attention was next turned to the 250 Junior classes. In the first heat Steve Dunnihoo (Bul) won the first overall position while George Murphy (Yam) was close for second. Gerald Harpool (Puc) took third. Second heat we saw Ron Cain (Suz) claim first witb J De Sandgathe (Suz) in second and a third overall going to Chet Campbell (Hus). There were some super riders in the 250 Expert class. First moto was Steve Williarnes (Mon) out in the lead with Keith Nerseth (Pen) and Mark Williams (Ric) motoring through the pack. This was the way they fin~ed. In moto two
