In a recent interview with "Motor Cycle News", a British weekly, deposed 5000c world racing champion Giacomo Agostini makes some scathing comments about his MV teammate, Phil Read,' who took the title away from him. "I didn't have a chance of winning the title because I missed the TT and the Yugoslav Grand Prix due to the struggle for safety ._.He is not ba& Bu.t.he always wants to put himself in the limelight and he often makes errors of judgemen t. In my case he has tried to say nasty things, bu t in his heart he knows how things stand_..1 think I am better than him. " Wow a wheelie! NO SIX DAYS? With no country offering to sponsor the ISDT next year, it is beginning to look as though the event may not be held in 1974. The areas indicated in white are totally open areas with no f8'5trictions. The light orange indicates areas where riding is limited to Existing Roads and Trails. Other areas in dark orange include Closed areas where no riding is allowed. Special Design Areas where a detailed plan providing for some riding and some other activities will be prepared by the BlM, and Oesignated Roads and Trails areas where only certain trails wilt be open to riding. We picked out the Open and Existing Roads and Trails afeas because, for the most part, they are the areas you will be allowed to pick your own trail in when the BlM has finished its detail plans for Special Design and Designated Roads and Trails area. In the other areas, you either cannot ride or must only use trails designated for bikes or ORVs. Confused? Don't feel bad ... your friendly neighborhood Desert ranger will explain it all to you when he catches you in the wrong area. The results of the Redwood National Enduro in Crescent City, California, last weekend are in some doubt. A course marker was evidently moved, and a number of riders got lost in the snow-covered hills. ON THE BUBBLE: Barry Sheene, World Formula 750 Champion, beat his brother-in~aw, Paul Smart, to win the MCN Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch, but had the tables turned in the Race of the South when he finished behind Smart and winner Phil Read, the 500 World Champion. Read also won the supporting 500 class race over Sheene. Read's MV Agusta teammate, 350 World Champion Giacomo Agostini, won the 350 race in his first appearance since_ injuring his knee a month ago in Italy. Sheene and Smart both seem likely to ride Suzukis nexty. . . Some people have rumored about that the original in Yamaha's stable of ace road racen, Australian Kel CarrutJ:ters, is going to retire. Don't bet on It. We won't be surprised to see him out winning on the asphalt again next season. It will be something like his 20th year as a professional road racer. The British ISDT Trophy Team for next year (If there is an ISDT next year.) has accepted an offer from the Jawa factory to ride J awas. Better yet, they will get the a Il-conquering Czech off-road machines for about $500 each. Such a deal. It seems you can't argue with success and the J awas have been successful - at least with Czechs on them. We heard that the U.S. Trophy Team for the ISDT turned down a similar offer this year. CRC has gotten into the night MX shadowy operations .on Friday s at Indian Dunes and Saturdays at Orange County. Experts get all their money back. Novices don't.
