Sylvain Geboers finished the moto in third; DeCoster, then Bauer, Wolsink and Schutz, keeping the entire European Maico team in the top seven positions. Then came tOR Americans Lackey, Weinert and Mike Runyard. After busting his throttle assembly in the second moto, Pierre Karsmakers went back to the pits and had it replaced. It took him about five minutes and a number of laps were lost, bu t he came back out and ran the remainder of the moto at a moderate pace. The result was that he finished in 22nd place, which might not be too noteworthy in itself, but it gave him eighth overall in the final standings to Mike Runyard's fifteenth. By 11 margin of only three poin 15 Pierre Karsmakers ~came the AMA National 500 Motocross Champion on Yamaha. Next year, the AMA will require the ti tie go to an American citizen, but this year it goes to Pierre. 250 Support Class There were a lot of go-fast Florida riders on hand to take a sho~ a t a win qn their home track, b'clt. when the three 15-m)nute motos were finjshed, the California factory racers went home with money in their pockets and sand in their rims'. . In the first moto, Rich Eierstedt (Hon) and Billy Grossi (Kaw) left the line side by side and it was almost half a lap before Rich was able to gas ahead of Billy and take over the lead. Bill Clements got a bad start on his factory Husky and was quickly working up from the back of the pack as Ron Pomeroy and Bryar' Holcomb held their Bultacos in third and fourth. On lap four, Billy Grossi fell but recovered quickly to fourth behind Holcomb. The moto ended in that order with Clements working his way up to sixth behind Rich Eiers1ltdt comes out of the corner in the lead. John Borg and ahead of Ron Self. Florida's Don Smith put his YZ into the lead at the ~ginning of the second moto but it wasn't too long ~fore Eierstedt was back in control with Bryar Holcomb hot on the Honda's rear tire. Bryar took command of the lead from Rich on the fourth lap and never gave it up. Ron Pomeroy retired with a stuck throttle while Billy Grossi was working his way through t.he field after stalling his engine in the first turn after the start. Tony Wynn has been riding a Honda the last few races with today looking like the first time he's really been comfortable on it. He ended the moto in seventh as Bryar took the win. Eierstedt was second; Ron Self, third; then Clements, Orlando rider Dan Farley, Grossi and Wynn. Ron Pomeroy stayed in front of the final moto for three laps but a missed shift gave Bryar the chance to slip around his Bultaco teammate. Ron began drol?ping hack and was passed by Grossi, Eierstedt and Clements. Billy Grossi slipped around Bryar on the six th lap and, in an effort to get back into first, Bryar went down, recove.ring back in the middle of the pack. Billy stayed up long enough to take the moto win bu t the overall victory went to Rich Eerstedt on his Honda as they finished second. Ron Pomeroy finished the moto in third, then Clements, Self and Wynn. • 500 Results 500: 1. AOlf Well (1-2) Mal. 2. Hakan Andersson (4-1) Yam. 3.Dylvaln Geboers (5-3) Suz. 4.
