The Forest Service gets into its
Act: The lake Tahoe Plan ~
The U.S. Forest Service has
announced a series of public
meetings for revie~ of its
proposed land use management
plan for National Forest lands in th"
Lake Tahoe Basin. The proposed plan is
similar to the BLM California Desert
Plan in that after a period of public
comment it will be released in {inal
form.
According to Doug R. Leisz,
Regional Forester for the California
National Forests, public input from
meetings held in February and March of
1972, as well as inputs from universities,
clubs, Federal, State, and local agencies
all were incorporated into the plan.
The plan covers about 116,000 acres
(57 percen t of the Tahoe basin land
area) located in Alpine, EI Dorado, and
Placer Counties, California, and Carson
City, Washoe, and Douglas Counties,
Nevada. The official blurb on the plan
says that "Protection and enhancement
of environmental quality is the first
consideration for all activities."
Anyone who cannot attend one of
the public meetings listed below, but
wants to comment on the plan, should
send their .written comments to the U.S.
Forest Service, .Box 8465, S.. Lake
Tahoe, CA. 95731 before November

Harry Kelley, Sr., 73, of Dayton,
Ohio passed away today. Mr.
Kelley ,was father of "].R."
Kelley, President of KK Motorcycle
Supply and head of the American
Motorcycle Association.
Kindness, generosity and a sense of
humor were three major attributes 0:
Harry Kelley. All of his working life was
given to the motorcycle sport and
business. Born in Indian Territory,
Oklahoma (befote Oklahoma was even a
state), Harry joined the cavalry and
chased bandits along the Texas-Mexican
border for a few wil:d years_ He entered
the motorcycle business in Chicago
while still young. There he married his
wife, Marie, who worked with him
during their near half-century in
two-wheeled business. To .celebrate,
Harry took Marie on a Honeymoon to
Texas, promising to enrich her small
dowry with big prize money from a half
mile meet. Harry forgot to mention to
his young bride that a mechanic-pal
would be accompanying them
.
Harry went back to his youthful job
of cow-punching out in Western
Nebraska during the WW n lull iii Indian
Production. "Lost my shirt and was glad
to get back into cycles at the war's
end," said
Harry in his
typically·humorous s tory -t elling
fashion. When Indian ended its
illustrious career, Harry took on a
Triumph franchise, and some years later
became a mid
