The last professional TT race of
the
year showed that
Northwestern riders can race with
the best from California on the
famed steeplechase course at Ascot Park.
The Oregon trio of Mark Williams,
Randy Scott and Sonny Burres were on
hand, with Scott timing in second to
John Hateley and Williams in third.
Williams then upset John in the heat
race and Scott tried to do the same but
his many mistakes and two near crashes
in the heat and a final fall down pushed
him back to the semi main. Burres
pulled a third in the heat for his best
effort of the night.
John Hateley went to the front in
the final with Eddie Mulder, showing up
on a Yamaha this time, in second.
Mulder gave way to Terry Dorsch on the
second lap and then moved another
notch back as Mark Williams started
coming on strong and moving up to
third on the fourth lap.
The next eleven laps saw a two-rider
duel between Dorsch and Williams for
second, with Williams winning out on
lap thirteen. Dorsch made a comeback
try on the last turn but had to settle for
third.

semi to nip Tom Rockwood right at the
line for second place, behind Mike Kidd
from Texas who was making one of his
