Mike still beat the 125 Intermediate class which he had to ride in. Scott McKay (Yam YZ) picked up the win in the 125 Intermediate class. Scott is really starting to 'get it on. Bob Geffert took second once again riding his Honda like there was no tomorrow. John Dieu (Yam YZ) captured first place in the Open Expert class. Dieu was never really challenged by George Webb (Kaw) who took second and Jeff Mullins also Kawasaki mounted. Greg Doran brough t the Cycles Unlimited Suzuki in for fust in the' Open Intermediate class. Callt 90025 • (213) 478·0095 Open Beginnen & Vets go. 01 CRC Motocross at Indian Dunes By The Shadow VALENCIA, CAL., SEPT. 23, 1973 Sunday was a day of many things at Indian Dunes Park, as the California Racing Club hosted a full motocross racing card on the famed International Course. Two hundred competitors answered the 9 :30 a.m. call to battle. Weather and a lack of apparent major injuries were probably high points of the day. First of all, the mixed-up weather featured just a bit of everything... from fog, to clouds, to sunshine, to high winds...bu t nothing severe enough to in terfere with the program. The course was in excellent shape, with very few major spills, and only two which rated movement of the track ambulance. One competitor was taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg, while still another_young rider suffered a little hurt pride and a very hurt motorcycle. Randy Stubbs, piloting a Yamaha in the 250 Expert class, posted a very impressive grand-slam victory. Last Sunday at the NRA festivities on the Shadow Glen Course, Stubbs played "second-fiddle" to Matt Bilton. However, this time everything went Randy's way. Meanwhile at Open Expert, Joel Shedden (Maico), and Frank Giardino (Maico), had themselves quite a day, entering the final moto knotted at 625-all. A win in the third and final even t netted Giardino first place overall. Ress Benson (CZ), was the top performer at Open Intermediate, taking a grand slam victory. However, Ron Glenn (Yamaha), had to fight like hell to nip second-placer Brian Summers (CZ), by 75 points at 250 Intermediate; and Steve See (Honda), and Richie Williams (Penton), were all even at 700-all at 125 Intermediate, with a vicotry on the third moto netting See the overall victory by 100 points. As for Juniors winners, John Lewis (Maico) swept the Open Junior class with a grand slam victory; John Caper (Honda), netted himself a grand slam victory at 250 Junior; Greg Tagge (Honda), had his hands full, but still won at 125 Junior; Manuel Ballestero (Honda), was the winner at 125 Junior, under 16; and the top man at 100 Junior was none other than Mike Brown (Indian), who took the victory by a grandili= • Well, HOT DOG!
