Roberts takes the outside around Randy Scott in the heat.
Jim Rice had to fight some fast guys and a sour machine.
Dave Aldana. Say what you like•. nobody else does it so .gracefully.
Ron .Moore fixes to put it on fast qualifier Mert Lawwill.
on Roberts enough to challenge the new
champion.
Kenny edged away as Randy Scott
shook Romero and moved up to work
on Moore.· Burrito headed the next
group in front of" Lawwill and Hateley.
Scott and Moore went at it fiercely as
the laps ticked away, both riding well in
some of the most exciting battles of the
evening. Moore gained the advan tage
with two laps to go and held it for
second place; Scott was third, then
Romero, Lawwill, Hateley and Mark
Williams. Horton, Mann and Keeter
filled out the top ten.
Gary Scott, recuperating from a
crash at Ontario last week, failed to
make the program.
Roberts rode brilliantly, providing a
drarpatic finale to his string of excellent
'performance for the year. It was his first
half mile victory of the season, and he
broke the lap record by 7% seconds. A
good way to el1d a good season.
(Nobody asked us, but we'd like to
see Ascot conclude the season again
next year. It's more homey than
Ontario, and it's fun and."well shucks,
more American. Fast and dirty.)
