Giacomo Agostini creshed into an Armco barrier in practice last week at Misano, Italy, when the throttle stuck open on his MV 500-4. The muscles above/his left knee __ tom and required two houn of surgery and 40 stitches. He11 be out for at least six weeks. Are you still holding 'your breath? We hope not. Land Speed Record Week at the Bonneville Salt fiats was a bust. The Don Vesco/Yamaha effort and the Murray.Manning{friumph effort packed up and wen t home. Vesco, after setting a new 250 record (189 MPH) and a 350 record (204 MPH), gave up on the weather. Boris Murray and Dennis Manning had kept sawing third gear out of their "bike". Both plan to return to the salt in October. Vesco will use a pair of 650's for the attempt. At last report, Bill Wirges was still there with his Kawasaki, spending money like it was going out of style (he might be right), and seizing engines. His best run was 245 so far. You can tell your loeal Cyde Newsie cuz he's struttin' around in his "Collegiate" or "Coup''' jacket that says "Cycle News" upon it. The Department of Transportation would like people to use mass transit instead of personal transportation (including motorcycles) in the next century. According to D.O.T. staff motorcycle specialist Lew Buchanan, ''The Department def"mitely supports mass transit. We feci it is the only way for this country to go."
