September 18, 1973 " Page 17 DELIVERANCE. What's a nic:e girl like you doing in a mudhole like this? Oswell claimed it with a Honda. Big time rider Jim Wilson (CZ) was in third before a bad set of brakes sent him out leaving Rick Salmon (Yam) in third. Ken Zahrt got out in front in the beginning of the second moto only to be passed in the back straight by Payne, who held on with Zahrt right behind and Oswell· coming in third. In the third moto Payne got off to a bad start but by the third lap was back in second pu tling the pressure on Zahrt. In the last two laps Zabrt and Payne were pu tting on a great show, exchanging leads with Zabrt taking final honors. Bill Payne had the best score overall, Ken Zabrt second and Tracy Oswell third. In the first moto Shennan Andrews (Mai) led the pack of Senior big bOres around for three laps before Mike Todd (Mai), coming up from third, took the lead in the fourth lap, Bob Schwartz (Rev) c"!"e in third. At tum two in the second moto there was a crash up front and'a couple .of the leaders wen t down. After the dust had cleared Bob SC'hwartz was in first, Joe Roat (Bul) was second, and Joel Shedden (Mai) was third, in that order to the finish. After a lap in the third moto Todd led with Roat and Schwartz spread out behind. No one up front changed positions and the mota ended in that order. Overall it was Schwartz taking top money, Todd second and Roat third. • The third moto began wi th PinneH out in front again with Maple second and Suevert third. Suevert was unable to pass Maple and had to se ttle for third, which was good enough for second place overall, with PinneH first and Maple third. Mike Puklus (CZ) held first from wire to wire in the first moto of the 250 Senior event. Ken Greene (CZ) was second for two laps until he fell trying to stay ahead of Rich Leonard (CZ). Leonard took second and Brian Summers (CZ) came in behind him. The second moto started with a close race between Ken Greene (CZ) and Puklus with Greene ahead in the first lap. Puklus passed Greene in the second lap and stayed ahead for the rest of the race. Leonard was able to get by Greene also. Even though this was only his third race as a Senior he held second and gave Puklus a bad time for first. After the first lap of the third mota Greene was firs t, Pu klus second and Leonard third. They finished in that order and the -only race was between Greene and Pqklns. Puklus scored fust overall, Leonard second and Greene dUrd. • Yamalube 2·Cycle Oil helps you get wherever you're going dependably. CRC MX at Indian Dunes a subsidiary of Yamof,a International Corporation, 6610 Orarrgethorpe-Avenue, Bueno Pork, California 90620 By The Shadow H VALENCIA, CAL., AUG. 28 Simi Valley Jaycees Motocross at Muntz Cycle Park . By Karl Drews MOORPARK, CAL., SEYf. 2 Despite the Labor Day weekend the fourth annual Simi Valley Jaycees Motocross at Muntz Cycle Park had good attendance. The efficient Jaycees, all wearing orange wind breakers, gave the race an official look. One of the projects the Jaycees are sponsoring is a statewide motorcycle safety drive, trying to get people to wear helmets when they ride. Between the second and third motos they raffled off two Premier helmets. All three motos at tile 250 Junior event were dominated by Steve Pinneli (Yam) on a new YZ. The real racing was going on about twenty feet behind him between Joe Suevert (CZ) and Gene Maple (Hon). The YZ took an early lead in the second mota with Foster Chase (Suz) in second and Maple third. Maple got by Chase on the fourth lap. Meanwhile, Suevert had ridden his CZ into third place and in the last lap he took second with Maple right behind. Normality was the only way to describe the Tuesday night California Racing Club encounter under the lights on the super·neat International course. It's getting to be the same old story, bu t "nonn" again meant 200·competitors. It's beginning to look like Tuesday nights are a "stuck record" for the CRC, as the 200 mark. was achieved right off the bat, and that is about where it has held since the very beginning. This Tuesday night, 11 Experts and 13 Intermediates made things at least interesting for the spectators. Top riders in the three Expert classes were Russell McAfee, riding somethmg the CRC scorekeepers forgot to list, placing fust at 125 Expert; Tom Bates (CZ), placing first at 250 Expert; and Bob Schwartz (BS), a winner at Open Expert. Intermediate competition found Brad Williams (Hon), the number one man at 125cc, while Mike Sixberry (CZ), surprised everybody in the park in capturing the 250cc encounter. As for the Novice encoun ters, Mike Johnston (Yam), grabbed first at 100 Novice; Jim Tassano (Hon), cal'tured the 125 Novice race; Bob Vege (Hon), finished first at 250 Novice; and Steve Smith (Suz), I:!"abbed a first place at Open Novice.
