Sammy Miller, much to no one's surprise, won the Ute Cup Trial in Colorado Springs with only 16 points, less than half the score of second place Lane Leavitt. Miller, as well as many of the other 135 entrants, had difficulties with the 8,000 foot altitude. Of the first six places only Marland Whaley in third place on a Montesa was rding anything but a Bultaco. Kawasaki is trying to sign Willi Bauer to ride the 500cc Mxer in Europe next year. A bunch of people got stranded on the island because of lack of boat space. They haven't let bikes on the island for quite a time now, but if that's the way thay're going to be, we don't want to go over there anyway. ... "" ~ Most Powerful. BROOKS STREET ONTARIO, CALIF. 91762 ' (714) 986-4537 RAIN, RAIN GO AWA Y: Jim Rice was mentioning something about his hard luck lately after setting fast time at the Terre Haute National and sure enough it began to rain and rain and rain. Twenty minutes later the track had deteriorated to a half mile slick, greasy ooze and the weather man had written "'cancelled" on Terre Haute. A rescheduled date of September 3 was decided upon in a meeting of the riders after it was learned that there we.re no other dates available. Betler luck next time, Jim: Bill Spencer writes: "One can hardly pick up a newspaper without _ing something about bikes or ORV's. Only . trouble is that what you read you don't want to. Maybe it's time for 8 public relations campaign' to give motorcyding a better image. Or have we tried that already?"
