By actual turnstile count 38,808 fans enj oyed an evening of exciting rno tocross racing in the comfort and convenience which was afforded the Superbowl fans. 1 would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to all those who attended the Superbowl and made it all happen. Your support has made the Superbowl of Motocross the largest and most widely publicized race of its kind in the United States. The Superbowl, to our surprise, seems also to be the major motocross even t to be written up in general publications in Europe. The Superhowl and Coliseum have now been awarded, by the AMA, a perpetual sanction which means each year you can look forward to the event. We expect to make improvemen ts each year, and nex t year's Superbowl (the weekend of June 21 and 22) will be more spectacular than the Superbowl of 1973. Our major step for nex t year's even t is to improve our con tingen t of European riders, and to accomplish this a representative will be in Europe to personally sign these riders, so as to guaran tee their appearance for your benefit. We also have another fantastic track design advance with an over·under jump. [f you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions for improvemen ts, or wish any general information please drop us a line. There was apparently quite a bit of difficulty in purcbasing tickets through Ticketron Outlets and we are trying to follow the problem to its source. We would appreciate hearing from anyone who had difficulty in purchasing tickets, had a friend who had difficulty or even if you heard that there was no tickets available please write to: MediaMax, Inc., P.O. I am a Vocational Instructor for small engine repair at the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad. We are in the process of rebuilding a Mustang Delivercycle. 1 can not locate a parts supplier or a service manual. The frame number is GB3 7A55, and this cycle is a three wheeler. The engine is a single cylinder four cycle type. If you can give any assistance I would very much appreciate this. STEVEN HUGHES, Instructor Small Engine Repair Correctional Training Facility Soledad, Calif. 93960 Sticky Picky Five of us went riding in the Adelan to area last weekend. Around noon, while back at the truck having a sandwich and a cold one, we were approached by a California Highway patrolman. He informed us that we were on unposted private property and also noticed that some of our bikes did not have the little green sticky. He told us we could ride on BLM land about twenty miles from there. He said he was going to leave for about an hour and if we were still riding in this same area when he got back, he would write citations on the bikes that did not have the green stickies. This highway patrolman had left the highway and driven several miles down dirt roads to get back to where we were riding. I didn't know it was part of his job to leave the highway to enforce trespassing on private property (by threatening green sticky citations). First of all, we don't need sticken to ride on private property, and secondly, what good is a state sticker on federal land? We don't ride on any land that has a sign asking us not to, all our bikes are quiet, we don't ride near houses and we do not leave litter. Thanks for listening to my gripe. ED DURAND Invitational Tournament of Dirt Bikes over Labor Day Weekend that they would not permit anyone to en ter the Malibu Coun try Club premises. We did not wish to cancel the event· because that would mean victory for "do-gaoders" in Malibu who would like t!' keep everybody else out of the area. Also this would have been a great disappoin tmen t to our many members and guests who have been looking forward to this event. But most . importan t, we wan ted to stand up for our righ ts (to have a toumamen t like any other country club). By making a few changes in our original format, we will avoid being subject to the ordinances cited by the officers. These ordinances appear to forbid hiJIclirnbs, and to require a license where a charge is made for admission or participation. Although we are not sure that this interpretation is correct, in order to avoid any possible inconvenience to our members and their guests, we have decided to eliminate the hillclimb event and to make no charges for admission or participation. Staging an event like this for our members and guests costs a10t of money. We are asking you to please make volun tary contributions of whatever you can afford to defray the costs of labor, supplies, prizes, trophies, and grounds maintenance. MARTIN MAEDlNG 4232 E. 7th Long Beach, CA. 90804 213/433·3758 United We Stand Re: your Aug. 14 article by Chuck Clayton proposing to split AMA into racing and non-racing groups. While 1 would not reject this or any proposed improvement out-of-hand, I do not feel Mr. Clayton's proposal would help much in the problems to be solved. One of the motorcyclists main problems is "image". If we had a good image all divisions of. our sport would find working on their various problems an easier task. The professional racer, the amateur racer, the trail rider, the road rider, the mini-bikers, the bike media and the industry advertising each contribute a portion to the total image the public believes. The improvement of this image is the responsibility of each of us - it means we have to work· together on a united front. I believe a united AMA will be best able to do this. This does ngt preclude AMA divisions from working on their own specific problems. The outcome of AAA and USAC points out the way we do not want to go. They wound up with one group primarily concerned with insurance and the other group primarily concerned with the manufacture of odd-ball test results to'please the industry. What we really need is more rank and me participation in the affairs and governing of AMA. Put your faith in the riders, help them find leadership and we'll go and grow.
