The three fron t runners ran in a tigh t, orderly procession for the five laps; with Cooley overtaking Blackman for second on the final lap. Klein gained some ground in :fmishing fourth, with Murray Hoffman and Ken Edmundson in slots five and six. All of the first ten finishers were aboard Yamahas. The second heat saw Jay Levingston of Team Dirty take the point and run away unchallenged. The young Florida flash has strung together an impressive string of victories on the Noguchi Yamaha, with wins at Road Atlanta and Loudon. Nick Voge (Yam) was a distant second, followed by Walt Foster (Yam) and Bruce Hammer, riding the only Kawasaki in the top ten. Levingston quickly spHt and hid in the Novice final, building a 2 5-second' lead over second place finisher Gary Blackman. Nobody even carne close to having a shot at Levingston for the entire race. Wes Cooley again diced with Blackman for second, and again overtook the Pennsylvania rider midway through the race. But Blackman's Yamaha had a clear horsepower advan tage, and he repassed Cooley and pulled slightly away to finish second.
