with Tom Flaherty and Ricky Silva
battling tooth and nail. Flaherty came
out the only trophy winner to break
Silva's win stre ak.
Tom TYTell and Scott Pearson had a
neat battle in the 650 Expert run with
Scott getting his usual hole shot start
but then trying too hard in one comer
and letting Tyrell get underneath him.
The rest of the laps were spen t in trying
to catch the Dave Bostrom prepared
mo!or,. with little success.
In the 25 0 Junior Main the two stars,
Dan Young and Tom McRae, did a
repeat 6f a short track race a few weeks
back by taking each other out of the
race, while leading. While Tom was
leading, Young was keeping his Yamaha
persistently on the rear tire, and it may
have made McRae a little nervous as in
the slowest part of the course he
bobbled and highsided. Young was 'too
close to retreat so he also crashed. So
it's even·steven guys and An4y Whitaker
is happy for his chance to win.

The Bast
Go North
Bros.
by Patrick Neil
NAPA, CAL., July 14 - The two BAST
brothers, Mike and Steve, came North,
started 70 yards back and fmished first
in the very exciting Race Number Five
of the Napa Fairgrounds Speedway
season series this Saturday night.
Barclay Trehall, in his attempt to break
the lap record, could only manage to tie
the existing time set the week before by
Haserot.
There h3io always been a fair amount
of North versus South feeling among
competition motorcycle riders in this
state. Tonight that same attitude
prevailed, but not with any animosity.
The crowd here at the Napa Speedway
of course has it's favorites, but when the
evening was over, they had added two
more to their list. FAST BAST. TWICE.
The two brothers were considered,
by reputation, to be so good "that they
set a new record at this 1/10 mile oval.
The officials started both 70 yards back
from the starting line. However, this
didn't bother either of the boys. As a
matter of fact, it was just another
challenge. Mike Bast came from last in
fOUT laps to take first in Event Two.
Steve Bast came from last in four laps to
take first in Event Four.
NORM REEVES
Event Number Eleven had Steve Bast
again fmish in front of Barclay Teehal,
with brother Mike winning Event
Thirteen against Larry Mulock.
