Robinson, Drew win Vallejo Short Track M > ~ ~ by James Brammer VALLEJO, CAL., July 14 - Larry Drew (Oss) advanced his District 36 short track point lead by winning the 250 Expert final at Vallejo Speedway Saturday night while none of the other bigb men on the poin t table scored. Wade Boyd, who only recently made Expert, gave Drew a merry chase in the Main. He bad won his qualifying beat with Drew finishing fourth. Boyd consistently has been winning or finishing second since being advanced to Expert. Dennis Robinson (Yam), who has won more Vallejo races than any other rider, ran away with the 360 Main while Mike Richardson (Bul) and Ken W Z W ...J (,J > (,J The good guys use "~~~R~~~" RACING CASTOR - The ultimate in lubrication. ... Manuel Datton, who is competitive in the white plate point racing, won the last trophy position in the 360 class with a fourth. Gene McFarland's boy, Mal Maciel troplUes with third in the 175 Novice tmal in a fine ride where he moved up for that position. More experienced riders John Narvaez and Fred Merttens finished one-two. The Vallejo short track surface is well manicured and must be one of the fastest short tracks ever. Being fast and smooth leaves Ii ttle time for passing. That brings up the poin t of who if anyone in the 360 class can beat Dennis Robinson off the starting line. GRG MX at Indian Dunes by The Shadow VALENCIA, CAL., July 15 Outstanding was the only way to describe the turnout for the California Racing Club;s Sunday motocross card on the Indian Dunes International Course. More than 350 riders were on hand to do battle in 12 races and 20 divisions, with 4.0 per cent trophies riding in each of tbe divisions based on the number of starters. A great part of the large turnout were almost 50 riders from the Old Timers Club competing in the Novice, Amateur, Expert and Master classes. I guess it was to be expected, but there were several spectacular falls, especially in race number six, which featured 30 competitors from the combined Open and 250 Novice classes. We lost count of thenumberofbikes wbich piled up in the first and only "blind turn" hill on the International Course. After the first two bikes collided, the flagboy moved to the bottom of the hill, and began waving his caution flag. Unfortunately, riders, who could not actually see the wreck, just kept on zipping around the blind turn and into a growing pileup. Finally, the black flag was waved and the race ended. As it was half over, results were official. Although no riders left the track via the ambulance, one spectator tried to view the competition from the tallest tree around - and promptly fell from the tallest tree around. As far as this writer knows, the spectator was the only one to be rushed to the hospital in the ambulance. James Shaw (Bul) was first 250 Beginner in Division Two.
