with Tom Flaherty and Ricky Silva battling tooth and nail. Flaherty came out the only trophy winner to break Silva's win stre ak. Tom TYTell and Scott Pearson had a neat battle in the 650 Expert run with Scott getting his usual hole shot start but then trying too hard in one comer and letting Tyrell get underneath him. The rest of the laps were spen t in trying to catch the Dave Bostrom prepared mo!or,. with little success. In the 25 0 Junior Main the two stars, Dan Young and Tom McRae, did a repeat 6f a short track race a few weeks back by taking each other out of the race, while leading. While Tom was leading, Young was keeping his Yamaha persistently on the rear tire, and it may have made McRae a little nervous as in the slowest part of the course he bobbled and highsided. Young was 'too close to retreat so he also crashed. So it's even·steven guys and An4y Whitaker is happy for his chance to win. .., > '5 .., ~ w Z ... w U > U The Bast Go North Bros. by Patrick Neil NAPA, CAL., July 14 - The two BAST brothers, Mike and Steve, came North, started 70 yards back and fmished first in the very exciting Race Number Five of the Napa Fairgrounds Speedway season series this Saturday night. Barclay Trehall, in his attempt to break the lap record, could only manage to tie the existing time set the week before by Haserot. There h3io always been a fair amount of North versus South feeling among competition motorcycle riders in this state. Tonight that same attitude prevailed, but not with any animosity. The crowd here at the Napa Speedway of course has it's favorites, but when the evening was over, they had added two more to their list. FAST BAST. TWICE. The two brothers were considered, by reputation, to be so good "that they set a new record at this 1/10 mile oval. The officials started both 70 yards back from the starting line. However, this didn't bother either of the boys. As a matter of fact, it was just another challenge. Mike Bast came from last in fOUT laps to take first in Event Two. Steve Bast came from last in four laps to take first in Event Four.
