The 175 rotary valve single is one of Kawasaki's longest existing engines. You might w~U remember the Bushwacker, the old silver tanked F-3. it was one of the first dirt bikes with an electric starter. Of course, you probably don't remember wbere it came from. The F-2, does that strike a note? A 175 rotary valve single street bike, with a low pipe it had a black tank, you know. We'r~ getting back to about 1966 now. Go a little further, try the F-l, yeah, a little bit uglier than an F·2. Those were some bikes. They w~re known for speed, started KawasakI off on that foot way back. A 175 that would do an honest 85 MPH. Oidn't take too long to get there either. A whole bunch of F's later we've got the 1973 Kawasaki 175, the F·7. You'd hardly recognize it as the same bike. From the side stand up, it's different. No more electric start, but who needed it? It still haS a rotary valve, but def'mitely not the same one. Five speeds reside in the gearbox, and it now has cap active discharge ignition. A tachometer found its way up on the handlebars, and now the handlebars attach to Hatta forks instead of the old chrome steel numbers. Kawasaki has taken the time over the past few years to make the 175 a tidy little package that is detailed out for the trail.
