In one of his better than usual spectacular rides, Otton (BuI) came from fourth and then ran second to Fenn Pervier (Bul) in the Main until passing o~ the seven th lap. Often side by side, but with Onon bolding to the inside line in the comers, Pervier led by sheer speed as the tWo blasted from the comers under full throttle on a well conditioned track. On the passing lap, Otton's slide appeared to be a fall, but he corrected it to lead from the comer. Larry Drew (OSSA) took the lead in the 250 Expert final from Ed Hausmann (BuI) to score two wins in a row at Santa Rosa while his brother Dennis Drew (Suz) placed third. Ron Whitaker, riding a shining new custom Bultaco prepared by his father, came through victor in the 125 Novice class after a second restart. On the first start, Ron, from a pole position, went down in the first comer where he was hit by at least two riders, including his dad. On the first restart, Ron escaped a pile-up behind him in the second comer, bu t the track was blocked, requiring another restart. This time he was caught in the pack briefly in the first tum but quickly worked to the fron t and wen t on to win. Large groups of" foreigners" invaded the program, sacking a lot of brass. Robert Radford (Hon) from Eureka won the 100 Novice class. The 250 Junior class went to Graig Dahl (Mon) from Salinas. A n"w winner in the wheelie contest was James Jesson (Hon) while Ed Souza wbeelied a Bultaco to second place. The North Bay Motorcycle Club solved their previous track problems by scraping the top surface of sawdust-dirt mixture off the track, finding a smooth surface below. Tbe sawdust is for horse shows and the reason for the sometimes too soft surface. Castle Rock TT by Pennie Doutt CASTLE ROCK, WASH., June 30 With moS[ of the riders going to California this weekend, not many Experts were around. In fact, there were so few Experts that no Semi was run in this class and everybody transferred to the.Main Event. They ran the beats just to position the riders for the Main. It was a two-way battle between Sonny Burres and Dick Wascher in the first Expert Heat with Burres coming out in the lead and Wascher catching his foot in a hole and almost coming off. Chuck Joyner, riding a Harley, passed Wascher to take over second, but Wascher wasn't going to have any of that and passed right back to regain second. Burres finished in first with Wascher second, Joyner third, and Dustry Coppage fourth. Jim Einarsson grabbed the lead in the second heat and wen t all the way to win with Dan Mangano second, Dave Whitset third, and AI Brackenbury fourth. Einarsson took the lead in the Expert Main with Burres second. On the third tum in the first lap Wascher went down bard and was out of the race the remainder of the nigh t. Einarsson beld the led with quite a margin over Burres for half of the 15 laps, when Burres was able to gain ground and fmally pus to take over first. Einarsson stayed right on his rear wheel, trying to take back first, but was unable to. Einarsson was second, Joyner third, and Coppage fourth. It was Burres and Einarsson, wheel-ta-wheel all the way in the Expert Trophy DaIb witla Bun:eu.,;.... ing•••• Ricky Graves won the frrst Junior Heat race with Brad Tibbetts second. Cbarlie Brown took the second heat foUowed by Bob Cooper in second. Allan Mundt took the third heat with John Marinacci second. Hanley won the Junior semi. In the second lap of the Main, Tibbetts got by Brown to take over second behind Mundt and in trying to re-pass Tibbetts coming out of the .sweepe... Brown .bit·a hoi and went down. Kind of tore his bike up a little, but he was otherwise alright. Mundt held the lead all the way to the finish. Tibbetts trying his damedest to pass, bu t not having quite enough power, had to settle for second. It looked like a repeat of the Expert Trophy Dash as Brown and Mundt battled it out for the honon in the Junior Trophy Dash. Brown, getting off to a bad start, passed both Graves and Tibbetts, and it was wheel to wheel all the way with Mundt just barely taking the checkered flag ahead of Brown in second. It looked like Duane Hendrickson was going to make it a perfect night as he won his heat and the Novice Tropby Dash and held the lead for nine of the ten lap Novice Main. But working bis way through the pack came that J ~t from Oregon, Bill Oliver, and in the last lap, driving hard he passed Hendrickson to win the Main.
