Pat Manning, a former English gentleman road racer, now tailor of fine threads for such notables as Stu Peters, Mark Brelsford and Charles Clayton put together the best organized Road Race meeting at OCIR in sometime. The rider turnout left quite a bit to be desired as 60 to 70 road racers turned out to put in a good day's racing. Classes had to be combined with many having only one rider show up. If club road racing is ever to g.ain the stature of motocross there has to be cooperation between 'the nnew thre, associations and the riders need to really talk up the sport to others. The pits were full of excellen tty prepared stree t racers that just sat while the Owners watched. I t is unfair that riders have no competition in their classes after all the effort to get r,ace ready. The six races that did go off found lots of close competition for the larger than usual crowd. Don Emde (Yam) cruised to the 350 GP-Production win with Georgo Roche (Kaw) giving it one heck of a try. Even Kawasaki will admit that the production 350 is no match for the Yamaha TZ with former Daytona winner Emde up. The sidecars put on a real spectator show with all three running real close and husband + wife, M. + R. Clemens winning right at the line. Roche came back to win the 500-0pen Prod-GP with J. Gidney (Kaw) close in the early laps. The nest hot number man Phil Pascoe in the 250 GP race just cruising to win lover R. Hagie and T. Carroll, both on Yamahas in hot pursuit of each other.
