ASCOT HALF MILE MOTORCYCLE CARRIERS (213) 247-2850 KEETER GARDENA, CAL" June 29 - The weekly Half-Mile races continue to point out the fact that more than one rookie first year Expert-is ridiog over his head_ Two more hit the dirt last Friday attempting to beat the more seasoned and experienced riders, DeWayne Keeter and John Hateley scored heat race wins for the leading veteran effort in the first go-around_ Then the Trophy Dash came out, and it was rookie Brian LaPlante trying not only to beat the boys, but also set a new track record, He pulled off a full-bore south tum run but got the north tum with the throttle wide open and then went into one or the biggest "tank-slappers" ever seen on the local oval. The wild wiggle shot LaPlante over the bars, straight up in, the air and then straight down the ,ground. The crash started just as Tom Rockwood had passed Hateley for second. The race went the distance, one more lap, with Tom, who had just returned from the East, picking up his first Dash win of die year. Rookie Larry Gino finished third bu t was to be the star in the next event, the 15 lap final. Keeter started on the pole with the best heat race win time and a brand new set of blue and yellow leathers than dodo't quite match his orange and black Harley-Davidson. Gino hit the turf on the south tum so early in the race that many fans missed it entirely. Like LaPlante, Gio .walked away but two rookies batted zero for the nigh t. • Keeter made it his second win of the season with the real race centered on second place between Terry Dorsch, Hateley, Tom Horton and Rockwood. It started on the first lap and was still going at the fmish, fifteen laps later. Dorsch took the decision. Rick Hocking was again the biggest gun in the Junior class, winning his heat race after taking fast time honors. The final was a two rider chase between Rick and Danny Hockie on the Yamahas with Hocking again able to keep Hockie from scoring the win. 0& S LTD Ai 1:~rl1e" to front or Rear Fra~es of A"y • CAR • TRUCK • TRAILER loading RamD CYCLE SEATS + Full Line of Dirt Bike Accessories. Former Main Event winners, Bruce ~ Hanlon and Tom Berry took a back seat this time and ran third and fourth. Girl gasser, Debbie Reon, picked up a third place in the heat race and a poor start in the Semi found her in last at the end of the first lap and 'again was too far back to qualify for the fmal.
