Mark Varley MacFarlane (Han) and Jim Beshears (Yam) handily won -all three heats of (Cl) led the way with Bobby Varley the mini class to take another (Yam) and Mike Lyons (Yam) not far .behind. Mike ended up in the number undisputed first place. Dwayne Mahacek (Yam) took first in one slot. bonnie Plough (Mai) from all three heats of the 100 class. Bobby Corpus Christi was second and Jim Morgan (Bon) gave him a good deal of Beshears was third. The clouds rolled by and let the sun shine in. In the first and second Expert motos Steve StackabIe of AustIn's Kasson Team and Kent Howerton of San Antonio diced long and hard, each taking a checker. When it came down to the third moto and all the marbles, then Gary Bigley of Austin pulled the upset hy pipping both "Shortstack" and Howerton at the first tum, and was long gone. Howerton and Stackable fought furiously for second until Kent's ignition began hashing on and off and nearly high sided Howerton. tackable came in second, taking the overall win. The other big exciter was the Open Expert class, which looked to be a sure thing for <;::l stalwart, Richard Bigley untIl Bultaco pilot .. Sam Finger, who recently moved up from the 125 class. sIJrung a surpris~ on many people. ~lgley took the fltst moto with Finger m closmg pursuit. The second moto was the charmer, Bigley and young Sam were battlIng heaVIly until Sam gassed it a tad much on a jump pass and looped the bike. Bigley bounced off the rear of the gyrating Bul and continued on for the win in the mota and overall as Finger was through for th<>day.
