CRA MX at De Anza - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - hy Barge Charger SUNNYMEAD, CAL., Dec. 3, 1972 De Anza Cycle Park used to have a very good, hut short, motocross track. The track has heen doubled in length and is now an excellent course. CRA held the first race on this longer course today and the riders loved it. In the Mini-cycle races Darmy Davis swept the stock class on his Yamaha, and it looked like Lee Eii:le was going to do the same in the modified class until he fell in the last mota giving that mota to Ladell Eide. Lee had enough points for the win. Pete Schaffhauser won all three motos in the 100 Junior class. In the 100 Beginner class Mike Sarich led the first mota until his Kawaski lost all gears and little Billy Edrington inherited the lead and held it to the end. Robert Oshiro had lost his chain in the first mota but came back to win the second mota ahead of Billy Edrington and the third ahead of Dwayne Snyder but when the pain ts were _added up Edrington had edged Oshiro out by one point. In the 125 class Max Aldridge and Steve Wells swapped the lead several times but in each malO it was Wells who led at the checkered flag. Terry Donnelly lost the lead in the first 250 Junior malO to Robert Swager, who had come from way back in the -pack for the win. Swager was hot after Donnelly in the second mota until his Bultaco gave out and Tim Elsenpeter moved 'in to second. Swager aced out Elsenpeter in the final mota for the win. In the 250 Beginner class Keith Patten led the first half of the first two matos, hu t Dan Klahr led the last half of each and led the third from wire to wire. Troy Miller won the first two Open Beginner motos ahead of George Swager, hut Ed Lovelace turned it on to' win the last mota for a fmal position of second behind Miller. Richard Rohinson made it look easy as he won all three motos in the Open Junior class. Escape Country M X / - - - - - by Mike CapaJite TRABUCO CANYON, CAL.,Nov. 26, 1972 - Th'e holiday weekend didn't seem to deter the enthusiasim of the riders as they showed up in full force. Cletus O'Brien (Yam) was there to take the Mini-enduro First Dav class with Dean Hoebelin the Beginner,' Ron Utaski in the Novice, Brad Rob in the Amateur, and Gary Tamiettie in the Expert, all on Hondas. Sandy Rose rode a Hodaka to the win in the 100 First. Day class while Kenneth Morgan was first Beginner on a Now you Dan Klahr swept the 250 Beginners class. In the Open class, Mike Stell put together three wins to be top man in the First Day division on his Malco, while Mark Lisenby came back from a third in his first mota to win the second and third [or the overall win in the beginner class on his Yamaha. In the Novice, Amateur, and Expert division, it was a runaway.as the winners of each of these divisions taking the wins by virtue of winning all three motos. These hotshoes ,were Mike Norris (CZ) in the Novice, Ray Badham (Mai) in the Amateur, and Mick Causey (Mai) who has remained practically unbeaten in the Expert class: The riders who think they have this course 'wired' are due for a surprise as there is plans fOT a 'turnaround' 'race one of these Sundays where the track will be run in the opposite direction for a little change of pace. Yamaha. Kevin Neal topped the 100 Novice on his Yamaha. The Powder Puff class wen t to Eileen I-Iaynes on her IIodaka. Charles Chandler took home the 175 trophy with his Yamaha. As u~ual, the 125 class was jammed as the winners were Doug Cunningham (DKW) First day - Mark Ritchie (Yam) Nov - Spencer Matlock (Pen) Amateur - and Jack Wright (Allstate) Expert. First 125 Beginner was Jeff Martin (CZ). The 250 class was another one that was pretty well filled which made the competition a lillIe keener as Ed Ronan (Yam) copped the brass in the First day division and Mark Springer (Yam) did it in the Beginners. \Vhile there were no 250 Experts today, CZ took the wins in the Novice and Amateur class with Steve Dichr and Curtis Lessel respectively.
