Bultaco was thumbs up today in these two classes. always ahead and least touched by the other racing machines. Rapp and Zahrt took off on their Bultacos in the 250 Seniors with little trouble. Rapp got ahead of Zahrt being edged out with three seconds with others like Den'ny McFarland (Hus) and Bill Wolf (CZ) behind. Bultaco took the lntennediates with 250 racer Jim Gappa winning well behind the top Seniors. Ken Zahrt had it made in the 125 Seniors where the rest weren't quick enough to keep close. He smoked the 125 Seniors as Rapp did in the 250 Seniors. Gary Huber and Fred Holbit (Man) couldn't hold the pace of Zahrt and were pushed back to second and third. It was amazing but the only one to worry Zahrt on the fast International track was an amazing Junior, Rick Henrickson, who scored for BuItaco again. In all motos Henrickson would be just short of Zahrt's tires while snuffing out the Juniors and the other Seniors completely. Rick would come back with the mud that was sprayed by Zahrt's knobbies just to show how close he was to one of the fastest Seniors around. Two racers who rode more like Juniors were Scott Farris ,(Pen) and Bob Clark on a Monark. AME MX at Rawhide by Torn Corley ELSINORE, CAL., Dec. 9,1972 - On a cold weather day, the AME 'Crossers traveled all of the way to Rawhide Park for a race that had good smoke throwers in all of the 125,250, and 500 classes. The last time that this club was at Rawhide, the class that had a full force line-up was the 250's but today things were happening in all classes for some well·rounded racing. Throughout the day the weather was so cold that the AME racers though t that it was necessary to keep even warmer so many were starting to build fires around the track. Later, it began to snow ligh tJy and everyone had to wear an extra jacket. Even the spectators were Walking around with MX gloves on. Not for a long time has Bruce McDougal been ripping up the AME results but Bruce made a reappearance that.came on strong as the others played follow the leader in the 125 Seniors. A Mettco-tuned Penton kept McDougal ahead of Scott Miller who was his closest threat on another Penton. Then, Mike Pausell came through with a third on a CZ 125. Besides McDougal there was another Senior racer, Frank Rowe, who hasn't been around for a wbile but came to Rawhide to race. Rowe, on his radically put together Yamaha, was just around the first three yet had the potential to be the winn~r and was just unable to get into the winner's groove after a long break. This whole class was worth covering because these were all competitive racers with competitive bikes. Jack Hazard as a 125 Intermediate racer had only one guy to place above today and that was Eric Jensen from Super Cycle on a Monark 125. Hazard (Bul) is usually short of dicing with the Seniors but whenever someone else enters into the Intermediate territory he let's them have it. John Miller raced a CZ in the 250 Juniors and took the first two motos cleanly with a second in the third moto. Miller often races to- win AMC at Saddleback and did it in the AME just as easy over 15 other finishers. Steve Watts (CZ) and Don Smith (Yam) came in second and third being knocked off by the A.I'v1C racer Miller.
